This was a very run of the mill episode. The premise as McKay acurately attested was another that Star Trek has done before.
The Lucius-found-a-herb-that-makes-everyone-like-him plot was not enough to sustain a whole episode. Apparently the producers do not agree as a sequel is already planned with Lucius. The b-plot of building the McKay-Carter-intergalactic-bridge was only more interesting as a concept. Zzzzz!
Trivia: In this episode, Richard Kind joins the limited number of people who have appeared in both a television version of Stargate and the original 1994 feature film. In the movie, he played Doctor Gary Meyers, whose attempts at translating the hieroglyphs on the cover stone relating to the Stargate were derided by Daniel Jackson (as played by James Spader).
