Here There Be Monsters
gs: Benjamin Ratner (Gabriel Barnes) Kathryn Kirkpatrick (Deputy Simmons) Tim Henry (Sheriff Danforth)

Johnny and Bruce drive into the small town of Hobb's Landing where Johnny gets a vision of himself being burned at the stake. He goes to the police and has a vision of the murder of a local girl. The police hold him on charges of witchcraft on which he sent to trial. Bruce calls Dana who comes to help out. While testifying to his abilities Johnny gains a vision of the girl still alive and on a boat. Johnny is cleared of the charges but the townspeople form a mob to burn him. Dana and the town sheriff find the girl, who killed her crazy mother when she was doing some kind of satanic ritual and whose father hid her away. Johnny is rescued just in time.

NOTE: The name of the town, "Hobb's Landing" may be an in-joke reference to "Hobb's End", which was used in both Quartermass and the Pit, and later in John Carpenter's movie In the Mouth of Madness (where Carpenter used it as a homage to Quartermass).

This episode was excellent, enjoy it completely. Love when the lawyer say to Johnny that the people of this town are good people and don't treat people the way Johnny say it would happen. And how at the end he feel sorry. :D Also love when the juror read the accusation of witchcraft, his face was priceless. It was a very intense episode with a great story.

It is episodes like this that remind why I LOVE sci fi series on TV.

One word - Outstanding

Some very clever acting - I really didn't realise the deputy was anything other than a concerned police officer hoping that Johnny could help them - until she had that chat with the Sherrif.

Johnny's visions about himself and Bruce were compelling as was his desperation to get Bruce out of the town.

I also liked Rev Purdie's initial response - the boy has asked for my help so I going to help him - even tho he was talked out of it by his adviser. It shows he does actually have some depth of feeling for Johnny, even tho it clearly could have been a little deeper - well deep enough to make him go himself rather than send the reporter. I may change my mind about him and start to like him, although there is still something about him at the back of my mind.

This was an amazing episode. The thing I love about the Dead Zone is that it really is quite unpredictable, and this ep gave us that in droves. I never would have guessed the outcome (or, rather who had actually committed the murders). I don't think it was possible to guess from the clues we had been given.

Johnny and Bruce's relationship was very interesting here too.
