Dire film (supposedly)...

Did anyone out there actually shell out money for this?

Plot outline from IMDB:
A deadly alien virus infects the crew of a Russian ship and everyone becomes sick. When they are found in the middle of the sea by some Americans, the virus tries to spread even more. The aliens aren't very friendly; their purpose is to dominate the Earth by effacing the human race.

Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Sutherland and William Baldwin - this could have worked, I wonder where it all went wrong?

I found this one to be a surprisingly good science fiction horror film , :)

I agree with Baylor, I thought it worked. They weren't necessarily trying to create a classic piece of critically acclaimed cinema, it's just a decent popcorn movie. I thought a space-faring AI downloading to an isolated Russian ship was an interesting concept. I still think that a transmitted AI is probably the most likely first contact we will have with an alien culture. In a way it was a more credible version of the "haunted ship" type story, in this case the ghost literally was in the machine. While certainly amoral, the AI wasn't even necessarily evil - it simply worked with whatever raw material it found at the other end of it's download regardless of whether it was mechanical or biological. It's still a late night cable TV staple to this day and it can be fun to watch it with someone who hasn't seen it before.
