Anne McCaffrey bibliography

There's two things you should add/change:

1) The dragonlady of Pern is Moreta not Morta (;) )
2) I see you've got Acorna's Search listed. In fact there is a whole Acorna series.

To get all the info about her works you'll ever nead, go to www.annemccaffrey.org It's her very own homepage.

Oh, and glad to see a McCaffrey forum on the boards.:D

What I like about her books is that she has created a viable world - where things that you might not think about (all the little bits of society like waste disposal that we normally ignore) are at least considered. In addition, she creates likeable people without having to go to the 'evil bad guy vs. perfect hero' storyline.

I agree there, also I also love that she can create solothions that are not to trite!

Please note, the Coelorea and Get off the Unicorn are two seperate books
You left off Nemisha's Ship
And DragonKin written in collaboration with her son, Todd.

There is another series about space pirates, but I couldn't get into it, it was a collaboration and I cannot remember the titles.

Brian, what about the Todd books, dragon kin is already out, co-authored with anne, but dragon blood is to be released and is written on its own. but both are part of the pern saga.

The link isn't working for McCaffrey's bio so I've posted a list instead :)

Wow! I thought I'd read all of McCaffrey's work, but there are a few there that I wasn't aware of. Thanks, Rune.

Incidentally, it's 'Restoree', not 'Nestoree'. Minor point. :)

Thanks for putting me right Mark, I can make mistakes when I'm typing alot and find my head and hands stop talking to each other :D

Pleased to find the info is useful. She has written a lot of books and been involved in a few joint works too :) Just wish I liked her work!

um, sorry to nit pick, but to the best of my knowledge nerilka and coelora have not been released as separate works. they were released as two novella's in one book.
and coelora was originaly intended as part of the proposed series for nemisha's ship (which didn't come about)
also she wrote three stories with with Elizabeth Ann Scarborough, all part of space opera (thats the one about the space pirates which i never managed to read:eek: )

Hi isthe pirates series you mean is called
Planet Pirates?

1. Sassinak('90)
2. Death of Sleep('91)
3. Generation Warriors('91)

A bit hard to get into i'll agree :)

Also the Crystal singer series was released as an omnibus in 1999 :)

In the UK, The Coelura and Nerilka's Story have only been released in one combined edition, but in the US they've always been separately released.

The Coelura was published years before Nimisha's Ship, so it's the other way around -- Nimisha was written as the start of a new series that occurs in the Coelura universe. It does seem unlikely that Anne will get back to that series, unless inspiration strikes, and her publisher is willing to go for it instead of Pern. But possibly Todd will pick up the series somedays; he's said he has some ideas, and he consulted with his mom on all the ship engineering/design parts of the Nimisha.

Space Opera is a collection of short stories edited by Anne and EA Scarborough. Each of them has one short story in it, and the rest are by other sci-fi authors.

EAS and Anne have also collaborated on the Acorna series, and the Powers That Be series.

The Planet Pirate series is a different series yet again, as Velvet pointed out. The co-authors on that were Jody Lynn Nye and Elizabeth Moon. That series is actually an extension of Anne's series Dinosaur Planet.

I've got a comprehensive bibliography of all of Anne's books and short stories (well, except perhaps of the last 2-3 releases and I also seem to have left of Space Opera, but that will be fixed soon).

Is there someone who could post a reading order for the Pern books? I'd like to get my hands on them after reading a novella in Legends, but I can never find out which to start from or how to go on...

quite hapily babe,
chronologically:
the first story in red star rising
dragonsdawn
rest of red star rising
chronicles of pern:First Fall
teh skies of pern
dragons kin (with Todd)
Moretta - dragon Lady of pern
Nerilka's Story
dragon flight
dragon quest
the white dragon
renegades of pern
all the weyrs of pern
dragonsong
dragon singer
dragon drums
dragons eye (i've not read this though)
master harper of pern

Rune has got the order in which written down right, if that is the way you prefer to read. personally, i'd start at dragonflight and go to the end, avoiding master harper - that was dire, then go back and read dragondawn, then redstar rising and continue from there. it's a backwards order, but otherwise you'll end up confused by plot inconsistancies and technology levels and characters.

If it's your first read of the series, I'd recommend reading in publication order as that's how the series developed. As Ivy said, that makes the inconsistancies less confusing.

I've got a list in pub order, but with some allowances for variation which is handy if you can't get your hands on the books in the precise order. Short stories are included on the list in quotes.
  1. Dragonflight
  2. Dragonquest
  3. Dragonsong
  4. Dragonsinger
  5. Dragondrums
  6. The White Dragon (any time after 2)
  7. Moreta
  8. Nerilka's Story
  9. Dragonsdawn
  10. The Chronicles of Pern
  11. "The Impression" (any time after 4)
  12. "Smallest Dragonboy" (any time after 5)
  13. "Girl Who Heard Dragons"
  14. The Renegades of Pern
  15. All the Weyrs of Pern
  16. The Dolphins of Pern
  17. Dragonseye (any time after 10)
  18. The Masterharper of Pern (any time after 6)
  19. "Runner of Pern" (any time after 1)
  20. The Skies of Pern (any time after 16)
  21. "Ever the Twain" (any time after 17)
  22. Dragon's Kin (any time after 17)
  23. "Beyond Between" (any time after 8)
  24. Dragon's Blood

i started with the dragon singer series and read the weyr series later. just as well, they are meant for an older crowd.
i think they are all brilliant. luminous. scintillating.
