A couple of weeks ago, C4 in the UK did a program called "The 100 Greatest Musicals", where people vote for their favourite musical, and then the 100 best get counted down.

And i was pleasantly suprised to see that OMWF reached no. 13!!! It was the only TV show to make the top 100, and managed to beat such clasics as Cabaret, Phantom of the Opera, Evita and Joseph.

Way to go, Joss! :D

I just couldn't resist giving my opinion ...

I have to say that Once More, With Feeling was the best Buffy ep I have ever seen - it was just hilarious when you see the guys in the background dancing with the sweeping brushes!

However, since I am not only a Scifi-freak, but also a musicals freak, I was both pleased that Buffy made no. 13 in the top 100 musicals, but also EXTREMELY annoyed!!! It beat some of the great classic musicals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What's the world coming to!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?

 Maybe its cos Buffy appeals to lots of people, but only a certain category of people like musicals? :p

Anyway, welcome to the Buffy forum Leyla, hope to hear some more of your views. :D

Ok -so, I got my DVD boxset and the first ep I watch is, of course, OMWF - b/c I'd yet to see the whole thing -- and can I just say --

HOLY COW! They cut a truckload of stuff out when they edited it for 'time' -- FCOL - couldn't they just cut back on the commercials instead?

The whole opening credits sequence (the part after all the cast members) is cut - and some of the other bits that Ob mentioned a while back -- geeeez!

Missing:

Opening credits sequence where everyone's waking up and moving around during the day (this is like 2.5 - 3 minutes)
1/2 of Spike's song (this is another 1.5 or so)
"What Can't We Face" (another 2 or so minutes)
Dawn's dance number (and another 2-ish)

It doesn't seem like a lot, but a TON can happen on tv in 2 minutes -- grrrr - bad UPN....

The episode totally rocks even more when you can see the whole thing - and w/o commercials!

That's why I like that Buffy is on BBC2 over here - no annoying adverts! :p

I'm glad you finally got to watch the full version of OMWF H2. I can't say you were missing much with Dawn dancing:)rolleyes:), but everybody should be able to enjoy the musical genius of "Rest in Peace" and "What Can't we Face?". :D

What's wrong with Dawn dancing? Why does everyone hate her so much?

a) she's not supposed to look like a professional dancer
b) she's not a horrid character - she's a little sister and the sister of a slayer - neither is, in any way, easy ---

grrr -

Lol, calm down, i wasn't having a go at Dawn. :p
I just find that bit kinda boring, 2 minutes of ballet-type stuff. I would have found it boring no matter who was doing the dancing.

Just gotta take up for Dawn - she's gets the short end of the stick every chance a fan gets - and I've still no idea why --

One of my 'special projects' I guess --- getting ppl to understand that minor characters aren't always 'bad' characters ---

and I always pull for the under-dogs --- they don't get much attention anyway --- ;)

I know you were just trying to be cute but as I mentioned before... a long, long time before... I liked the dance scene because it wasn't some highly-polished production number.

Michelle obviously wasn't too strong in the singing department, so they found something else they could do to highlight her, which is more than they did in most episodes.

Michelle looks like a dance student doing a recital to demonstrate what they have learned so far. I found that rather quaint.

Channel E4 in the UK is showing the whole of Buffy and is currently showing season 6. I've been recording the episodes (which are likely to be different to the (edited for violence, etc) ones I saw when the show first came out).

When going through the list of episodes on my recorder (two episode per weekday are being shown, so I've a slight backlog), there's often a warning (in red text), such as:
  • Scenes of violence

For Once More, with Feeling, the warning given was:
  • Scenes of violence (and scenes of singing and dancing)

I think it is a great episode of one of my favorite shows and with the very under-rate Parking Ticket song...
I have been enjoying the reruns. I wonder if they will move on to Angel next? C4 were the UK broadcaster of the show at the time.

Sky was the main broadcaster with C4 showing badly edited versions over a year later.

Yes, the edits were atrocious. But I still hope they'll appear on E4 [or anywhere else I can see them] in some less edited form. Or I might have to dig out the DVDs...

The worst edit I can remember was where Spike goes to hit Angel with a 2 by 4 and punches him instead.

As if that really makes a difference :giggle:
I remember the episode where Angel is tortured and it shrank to about 35 minutes so they could show it at Tea-Time. At least the BBC did show unedited Buffy late at night [IIRC]
