//The Fifth Man Wright is delighted that actor John De Lancie comes storming into an episode called The Fifth Man. "It's quite a 'shoot-em up' because I wanted to put O'Neill in a military situation where he shows his mettle as a one man force. Rick [Richard Dean Anderson] just eats that stuff up and he does a great job. There's also a new member of the team – hence the title of the episode – but I can't tell you any more than that or O'Neill would have to shoot you."//

the thought of two sarcastic colonels on the screen at the same time has me most eagerly awaiting this one...cause if JdL is anything like Q, it's gonna be a scream...

new member.. so we know someone dies this episode then ;)

i've heard the 'fifth man' is a memory chameleon...he touches you and you see and hear him as someone else..like he'll touch daniel and danny thinks he's jack or whatever....that's how he's the fifth man.

i haven't heard any confirmed spoilers about someone biting the dust , just that 'sacrifice' line...and that doesn't necessarily mean death...they could be giving up thier beatles ablums for all we know :D

this i think is also the one where jack gets stuck behind enemy lines and we get to see 'soldier' jack come out...let's just say jack's gonna kick some @$$ in this one from what i hear...

This is what cult times says about the fifth man

Well all I can say is I can't wait.
Go Jack.

I cant wait if this is true. I always like to see a good plot twist. Not that I would want one of the best sg-team to lose a regular member. I did hear a rumor about Daniel wanting to end it after 4 seasons? I hope its not true but...:alienooh:

29 days left counting today! tick tock tick tock... hey is that clock running backward! Doh!:crying: :iiworry: :ticking:

and the countdown has ended....

i missed a few minutes here and there but this was a total, 1000%, grade a keeper.

it starts iwth sg-1 coming back, at least 3 of them, reporting to hammy that jack & lt tyler got separated adn the planet's crawling with jaffa and they need help. course the rub is no one has any idea who tyler is so....hammy confines the trio to the base, at gunpoint. literally. there's some team loyalty for you, all three of them were ready to get nasty. ooh, and girls, danny has his bandana....
slight pause for drooling

back to the planet, jack and lt tyler find a ruin to hide in. little talking here and there...btw: canon info, jack was born in chicago, grew up in minnesota. that's why the goa'uld want earth..minnesota. :D

anywho, hammy considers sam, danny & tealc compromised and can't send anyone else cause they culd be influenced too.

now the fun begins as the ever so smarmy, slimy and weasely col. simmons shows back up(if you had any doubt, john de lancie is a baddie...total nut case, likely backed by kinsey is my guess)
he's been logging into the sgc mainframe and trolling through their archives, basically hunting for dirt.

he interrogates them, asking danny about sarah (whose last name is gardener), asks about his girlfriend getting snaked, worried about alien influences on the sgc.

the line of the week goes to teal'c. when simmons is harrassing him about switching sides he says "how do i know you're loyal to the sgc?"
to which t-man replies: "it would be immediately apparant as i would not nesitate to kill you where you sit." in that calm voice ofhis ROTFLMAO. totally priceless...

then comes sam, simmons confronts her about jolinar, the main frame and let's not forget last week when she harbored an alien in her livingroom...sam is totally ticked off...she has a look on her face that would curdle milk.
she instead confronts him about being user 4574, the person who's been trolling the archives. he ends the interview.

eventually janet figures out the chameleon thing (it's a natural defense mechanism of his race the Reol, they defend themselves by blending in.) course by this time the alien is confessing all to jack cause the jaffa are surrounding him and he doesn't want jack to die for him.
jack doesn't care, he won't leave tyler(ok his real name is like kryiyiya...let's stick with tyler :D)

there are some spectacular battle scenes, jack creams like 90% of the hunting party...and just as the rest of them are setting to finishing him off...sg-1 shows up with timing that is text book and tv drama perfect.

trouble now is the gate is guarded by like 50 jaffa...they leave danny with tyler and go to scavenge the canon from a glider jack shot down(yep he shoots down a glider ...cool huh?)

tyler zats danny who has the second best line.
'why didn't you stop him" - jack
'I was too busy being unconscious after he shot me with the zat you gave him' - danny LOL

in the end they rescue tyler, who then goes to his new home world. seems his people are hunted by the goa'uld since they want to figure out their chameleon thingie...jack suggests maybe they coudl be friends...tyler says it's not his decision but maybe...

but an ominous note: as hammy is kicking simmons out of the sgc he goes.
'Do i have to escort you out?' -hammy
'No general. i know how to leave gracefully. I just hope you do.' -simmons.

oh boy....this does not bode well at all...

on the plus side, danny has his dana...and he fires a p-90 like a pro.

ooh btw..tyler took his name from the MRE labels "made in Tyler TX."

this is definitely one to rewind and enjoy a time or ten

agree with you great team eps. how they wanted to go back and get jack off the planet and tyler, love the look on hammonds face like who is tyler :)

the interagation scenes rocked, loved daniels attitude seeing that he has lost people close to him and the scene from the briefing how it could have been any briefing, lol

and good memory loved dannys line after been zatted :)

good eps. see they are sticking to daniel finally contributing he sure has turn into the military man :)

this one ranks in my top 10, season 5 so far is really good the writers did an outstanding job this season in getting the team back :)

just a side note - did anyone else otice that SG1 didn't do a lot of "exploring other planets" in season 4?

yeah anyway, THANX to the dude who did that great reviewback there (i'm no good with names)

thats my bit
ciao

HI! As if they explored this one much! Last season they did several... but not so we could see... just the end results.. The planted they gated to off Thor's ship, Euronda, the one for the Encarans in Scorched Earth (which was told to us that they explored).. they really walked about in Beneath the Surface... all that ice and snow... I think you are correct... they told us about it more than they show us.

Yes, I LOVED T-Man's line to John de Lancie.... there isn't much of a comeback for that one! Loved the expression on both men's faces...

Yes, skydiver... I think deLancie will be back... the interplay between him and Hammie is priceless the red phone line got zapped by Simmons... General you will play that card once to often... and the parting shot... Loved it! Yes, I think de Lancie is "working" for Kinsey! Hammie is guessing to according to the phone record.. I think this is one situation they will keep alluding to! I am sure de Lancie and his bosses are up to no good!

Daniel's zating line was the shows other funny one! He is getting more sarcastic... I love it!

Did anyone else think the showing of the alien running from the Jaffa reminded them of that rabbity/ anteater alien in Star Wars part 1 or 3 that came out a couple of years ago? they one with the bad Jamacian accent..Bubba Jubba..(or something... I feel like Jack here, people!)

Yes this was a great episode.

Danny's line about the zat was great and sarcastic. You think Jack might be rubbing off on him some.

Also loved Teal'cs line to Simmons and the expressions on both their faces was priceless. Simmons gave away a bit to much to Sam and she figured out he was user 4574.

Janet also was great. The concern she has for her friends. Torn between telling Hammond right away when she realizes it has happened to her and listening to Sam challenger her with the need to help Colonel O'Neill.

This rates right up there with one of the best episodes so far.

Yes, I believe that Simmons will be back which should give us some more interesting times.

i hope it does...its only the fourth show:D :rolly2:

only kidding.

THE NEW DANIEL JACKSON

I don't know about you guys but I am absoutly loving Daniel this season. He seems more comfortable. He's taken on a bit of Jack's sarcastic humour and he seems alot more tough. (handling that P90 in Enemies and 5th man). he still has that seriousness we love, but he isn't taking any crap which is good. i was starting to get sick of all the danny whumping, but this season has been really good for daniel.

I really loved Sam in this ep too. She's being a bit of a bad girl, she seems a little more insubordinate, hacking into computers, talking back, i like it.

Question: Why dosn't Colonel Simmons wear a uniform?
PS. He's even worse than Maybourne, I really hate him. He's Kinsey's littel puppet.

some have theorized that he doesn't wear a uniform because he's retired. others that it is his command officer's dress code that he doesn't have to wear a uniform. if hammy would authorize it, danny could certainly run around in civvies, he's a civilian and able to. also sam, jack and teal'c.
the commander of a base has some latitude in what his people wear. i seem to remember hammy doesn't always wear a tie.
there are also groups that don't wear uniforms at all. some undercover groups or internal policing groups wear civilian clothes and don't abide by the military regs concerning hair length and jewelry.

ole simmons is a pupppet who's bought into kinseys paranoia.

the most interesting theory i've heard is that kinsey is an alien afraid of being found out....and you know it's just crazy enough to be true

i totally agree about Daniel, Shelby. and i like it.

I can't believe the way Sam was talking to Hammond in this ep! Maybe it's a result of 'Ascension' but she too has become a bit more like Jack--well maybe even worse. but i'm glad that she was adament about going back for the lost team members. very cool if not trouble.

i really had fun watching this ep. in fact all this season has been great. an improvement off last season, i definitely think.

Simmons is eeevil.

p.s. why do they keep recycling all the names? didn't we already have a Simmons? and there are more repeats but i have momentarily forgotten the evidence for my point.:disgust:

Guys, if he's military and working for the Pentagon, he would possibly turn up in a civvie suit. When I worked at the MOD, we didn't wear uniform. When I went to the Pentagon for a couple of weeks, we didn't wear uniform, we wore civvies, as did everyone else bar a few in different departments. Depends on the department and what they are doing I suppose. Just because he's visiting a military base, doesn't mean he has to wear uniform as long as he carries his correct government and military ID.

If he's a retired officer, then he wouldn't wear uniform anyway.

I would suspect that he is part of the National Security Agency, especially because of the ease with which he got the Pentagon to authorise the surveillance on Sam in the previous episode.

I guess it's one for all of you guys who love the team dynamics, and for those who love explosions, Jack being the invincible soldier and caring CO, Daniel and his bloody bandana (Iwonder if its because he was having a bad hair day?) and Teal'c being all stalwart and stoic again.

But we didn't see the planet, or even know why SG1 were there. What made them decide to visit. Or perhaps they and the Goa'uld synchronise their calendars before each mission?

"Oh look Colonel, the 2001 July calendar says that the Goa'uld will be visiting PX***** to take a prisoner, we should go there and join in the fun!"

But where is the threat? The Goa'uld are NOT 'back'. Where did you get that impression from?

All we saw were what seemed like hundreds of Jaffa, who were apparently so badly trained they couldn't even prevail over two guys stuck behind enemy lines (or is that one guy and an alien!).

I'll tell you where the Goa'uld are. They're here in London at the Hippodrome, providing the entertainment for the 'World's biggest Salsa dancing Competition'.

They might as well be....

I thought it was a well done and well acted episode, but it was the same old, same old......

John de Lancie played the only character who provided a threat and he was from earth!

Go figure!

They do that all the time!!!!
They also use Davis twice (Paul and Walter)
Jonas and Jonah (sam's ex and jack in 2010)
Charlie O'Neill and Charlie Kawalsky
Kalan twice (Learning Curve and Beneath the Surface)
there are a few more, but i can't think of them at the moment.
