Pointless to make a prophetic film in the year it was supposed to be prophesying, perhaps?

Winston Smith yearns for the time before Europe became the Fascist state of Oceania. After brainwashing and being taught doublethink he comes to love Big Brother. The novel is very literary for cinematic success and both films have difficulty. The first follows the dehumanized future with reasonable fidelity until the end is changed. The second adds a few twists.

I've read the book but i can't find the movies anywhere!!! can't u buy them n e more?

Ive read the book Ive seen the 1984 version . ve seen clips of 1955 version.

The John Hurt film is very good - the actress who plays Julia does it very well, and a nice cameo by Burton.

There was also a BBC version starring Peter Cushing which is interesting. With tv shows back then , they didn't show repeats, they just acted it out live on tv each time - imagine that! But there is a recorded version of it on Youtube
