well.. maybe this is something..
She is like all the others, a fugitive on the run. Her crime was that she was an independant thinker. Therefor she was set to be reprogrammed. But with help from the crew on Moya she escape and joined them in their adventures on deep space.
(when I think of it, the presentation stinks..)
