looking for the name of a SF series involving playing cards...

not sure if this will be tough or easy for you lot...

i'm trying to track down the name of a SF series (in order to find the books).

elements i recall are that it was about members of royal families who lived through or time/space travelled using playing cards that represented them...

it was a series (4-6?) of slim volumes

i was leant the series by a friend in the early 90s - and would guess it was written early 80s or maybe earlier???

not much to go on i know... any thoughts?

Could it be Roger Zelazny's Nine Princes in Amber and its numerous sequels?

Although the cards involved were not really playing cards; it was a Tarot deck

Another possibility could be Piers Anthony's Tarot trilogy, God of Tarot (1979), Vision of Tarot (1980), and Faith of Tarot (1980). The trilogy was also published in 1987 in an omnibus edition.
