I am new to this forum. I have long been a science fiction and fantasy fan. There is one particular book that I read in the late 80's or early 90's that I can not find: it doesn't help that I don't know the title or author! I was hoping someone could help me out!
Here is what I remember.
There is a young man who lives in an eskimo like village. But he is "different" because his father was an outsider. Finally leaving the village to find his father/his past he discoveres that his father actually has a godlike status. He searches for a proper place for himself and finally wishes to be enrolled in a school? One of the requirements is that they have to sit out in the snow until they are welcomed in. This young man ends up giving his coat to a friend. In the end he has to leave his teacher: by following the precepts of what he has learned.
Not much to go by, I know. Here's hoping.
