Sam Shepard and Tom Sizemore are in the cast. Also an Australian actor who portrays one of the Delta Force commandoes. Does a pretty acceptable Southern accent.
"Black Hawk Down"
Anyone seen this one yet? Thought it was quite good, and followed the book pretty closely. The scene with the trooper getting hit with the dud RPG round actually happened, and the US Army rented out some MH-60's and Little Birds for realism. Gotta love the stream of brass fron...
If the gate had been discovered while the war was still in progress, everyone would have been looking for military applications almost immediately. Jack would be wearing a cool (I think) set of "pinks and greens" and defeating the Nazis and Japanese would be foremost on his mind. Heck, maybe...
Another "what if": If the the SG-1 story had taken place in the 1940's (or even 1950's), how would things have gone considering the level of technology then? Imagine jack as a Colonel in the US Army Air Force; would he have had a more militaristic attitude? There would have probably been no...
I retired from the USAF in 1998, and they were still called "Security Police". I believe Law Enforcement was a separate career field. Then someone got the idea to combine SP's, LE's, and Small Arms Instructors into one big field called Security Forces. Guess it kind of made sense, although some...
As far as the security folks around the Stargate complex, are they just regular ol' SP's, or some type of special personnel? Always wondered about that.
Can you see Jack as a Captain? That would probably be a more realistic rank for his mission. With some E-5/E-6 types as team members? (No offense to the E-4's and below, but more experienced folks would probably be desired for this one). E-7's and above are just too crusty :D
Pretty cool info. However, think they'd ever have a Brigadier General leading a team? Most probably not. I think Jack's tour would then end and some new officer given the job.
On a related note, do you think the people who put the uniforms together are kmowlegable about ribbons and their...
Given the mission, I suppose that a background in an Intelligence career field would probably be a must, or at least highly desirable. And then a couple years as a Food Services officer as cover ;)
Were any details ever given of Jack's military background? Was he ever rated aircrew, or possibly in a Special Tactics squadron? Most Air Force officers that lead ground teams would most likely be Pararescue, Combat Control, or Security Forces- related.
They both seem to be competent officers, so I think they're probably about even in the technical/professional knowlege department. From a completely unauthorized point of view, however, Janet is simply the more attractive woman :D
FYI, "Hangar 18" was released in 1980. It can be found at video rental stores and is a decent watch if you don't expect an Oscar-worthy film. I liked it, but then I'm not all that picky
"Hangar 18"
Anyone remember this early 1980's sci-fi flick? Not really well done, but watchable. Debate continues over whether there was a real "Hangar 18". Believe this was associated with the whole Roswell thing.
"Band of Brothers"
Antone watching the HBO miniseries "Band of Brothers"? Excellent story and pains were obviously made to insure technical accuracy. In my opinion, the most accurate, well done military series ever.
In the early seasons of "X-Files", Scully wore kind of drab, conservative, business attire. She seems to be (in recent seasons) wearing somewhat more stylish clothes. Know what? I miss the older look (and the scientific, no-nonsense Scully).
I think that current military/NASA flightsuits with all the appropriate patches and name/qualification badges would have looked fine too. In any case they are a vast improvement over all previous Star Trek uniforms, which lacked any functionality or looks.
