I'd let a character reply with "yeah" if it fits their personality and the situation. A bland phrase like "yeah" could also highlight the fantastic nature of something that another character said, such as:
"Come, my young friends! Let us strip naked and ride our war walruses into battle!"...
One of my favorite places to get character and species names, especially for animalistic characters, is in scientific character names. I have a shrimp named Decapoda Caridea and an Egyptian guinea pig named Pharaoh Porcellus. Something about names like that just feels right, probably because the...
Batman Begins is one of my favorite movies. I was glad they finally dug into why someone would dress up like a bat and fight armed criminals with his bare hands.
From what I've seen, the best comic book movies and TV shows lift directly from the comic books. Batman Begins was based on Batman...
I've also been watching The Flash. I've been really enjoying it, because it doesn't shy away from the goofy comic book stuff like time travel, alternate universes, etc.
Saying "a scissor" makes me think of some mythical creature who's essentially a green, scaly troll in a loin cloth with a head made up of two crossed blades and a metallic handle. It could be the bane of scribes, or something.
I bought the DVD of the movie based on the TV show years ago. I knew I was in for a good night when I saw that the menu options had been changed to "Bat Movie", "Bat Scenes", "Bat Options", etc. and heard Burt Ward exclaim "Holy interactive menus, Batman!"
The interesting thing I find about Disney movies I watched as a kid is this: each of the films is either much better or much worse than I remember it being. I remember loving the original Jungle Book as a kid, but as an adult, found that it had no plot and that the story was just an excuse to...
Genres like this are a pretty modern thing. Many great authors, like Shakespeare or Dickens, wrote their stories for everyone, not specifically "adults" or "teens" or "children." I feel the same way about movies. I never feel bad about enjoying a G or PG-rated film or one intended for children...
It's a little older, but I really enjoyed the The Dark is Rising series. It takes place in a modern setting, but ancient magic forces awaken and start messing stuff up. Lots of mystery and mysticism.
Your best bet may be anthologies of older stories like the ones presented in the Showcase Presents series. These are essentially reprints of comics written during an era when comics were written specifically for kids. They're great buys; you get a lot of comics for a low price.
My favorite has to be Batman: The Long Halloween. It's essentially the story of how Gotham's organized crime families fell framed by a murder mystery. What makes it interesting is that, though it's not exactly action-packed, the drama, characters, and suspense keeps you engaged. I also...
I seem to recall quasi-realistic space travel technology in Journey to the Mushroom Planet. I haven't read the series in awhile, but I remember a character being stuck in a time loop after trying to leave the planet. Interesting stuff.
