    Could please we ignore Desolation?

    Exactly my opinion. Moreover, some of the added bits are not too bad (Gandalf VS Necromancer), others are okayish considering The Hobbit is more of a children's book than LotR (I'm thinking about Radagast and his bunnies), the rest are just plain stupid, esp. the "love interracial triangle".
