A Modicum of Conspiracy -pt 1

To clarify, I am looking for feedback and criticism. Just more meta-level stuff, like is the idea stupid or does it need a character or plot instance I didn't think of? And not so much word choice, comma splices, and so on. So even if you hate it, feel free to let me know why.

    Please Recommend me a Book

Tad Williams Memory Sorrow & Thorn has elves (called Sithi I think but clearly elves) and dragons... It's fairly somber in tone and quite long. Not sure about Vampire/Necromancers, other than Sauron in the Hobbit, D&D novels, and maybe Sarah Ash's Tears of Artamon trilogy I can't really think...

A Modicum of Conspiracy -pt 1

Re: A Modicum of Conspiracy -pt 3 Marek cursed as he pushed another vine from his face. The dense, jungle-like foliage was damnably exasperating, and there wasn’t much time. The heat was oppressive, and made worse by the strange suit that Marek wore. It covered his entire body and seemed to...

A Modicum of Conspiracy -pt 1

Re: A Modicum of Conspiracy -pt 2 The massive Bot stood at the head of the ship. Unlike the others, he wasn’t sleek and muscular but paunchy, if a robot could be considered paunchy. “The casualties were massive. We lost almost a quarter of our crew.” Next to him, Khan shook his inhuman...

What Character from ASOIAF are You?

I was sort of hoping to get Jaime, but ended up with Tywin. Meh, could have been worse.

A Modicum of Conspiracy -pt 1

A year or two back I tried my hand at sci-fi for one of the first times. I wanted to incorporate a couple of well-known motifs. Anyway, I probably won't have time to make any changes (unless someone points out something really big) but I'll put this up in case anyone may find it interesting...

    An Orcward interval

Haha, I love these alternate perspective stories. Would love to see more.

    Alexander the Great

I know Alex gets all the credit, but really it was Phillip II who was the greatest Macedonian ruler. Because Alex killed his dad before the latter could invade Persia, he was able to steal a lot of his credit, but really Phillip established Macedon as the Hellenic power.

Rhaegar?? For the sake of discussion

I don't tend to prescribe to most of these conspiracy theories, but I almost think Tyrion might very well be Targaryen. His father's hatred of him, his stunted and twisted visage--well not proof enough but if you think about something Varys said in Clash of Kings. The eunuch handed him a...

Has Robert Jordan Ever Actually Met A Woman?*

My main problem with Jordan is that if everyone would just trust their closest allies and childhood friends and actually TALK this series would have been over in 5 or 6 books.

    Nordic epics?

Hmm, it's more Germanic but Steve Grundy's Rhinegold is pretty good and there are corresponding Nordic myths. HR Haggard has a great Saga-like novel called Eric Bright-Eyes. The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul and American Gods have Nordic gods in them, so does "Expecting Someone taller" by Tom...

    ASoIaF weakness(es)?

(I think he meant the geeking out more towards me, Arya.) Of course I still like Martin, but the name of thread is ASOIAF weaknesses, so I listed some things I thought could be improved. Obviously no book can be perfect, let alone a series of 800+ page books. And the age thing, in my opinion...

    Terry Goodkind

Hmm, guess I can't edit. Well if anyone wants to see a parody Goodkind board, here it is: http://1.myfreebulletinboard.com/demonspawn.html There is a bit of crap but some (I think) geniunely funny stuff on there as well.

Would you rate Tolkien as a writer?

Personally, his descriptions blow me away. In terms of sheer prose, I don't feel there's another sci-fi or fantasy author who can even compare, and very, very few authors even in his league. The man understood language. I especially love the evocitive imagry when Sam and Frodo first leave the...

    Worst Game Ever

Bugs Bunny: Rabbit Rampage comes to mind. But I doubt anyone else even remembers it. I also hated Superman 64 A Lot. But I seem to remember the worst game on the NES was Total Recall, a game that even in my youth I couldn't stand.

    Yoda Versus Gandalf

Jedi Master may Yoda be, but demigod Gandalf is closest to. Not much challenge sense I in this.

    Terry Goodkind

Okay, I don't want to spam, but there's a board that people who don't quite love goodkind have made. It's hilarious. Laugh-out-loud funny. I don't want to include the link in case it's against the rules but if you want some funny Goodkind parody pm me or something and I'll send the link out...

    American Gods ?

As an aside, I believe the BBC adaptation for Neverwhere came first, and Gaiman was so unhappy with it he wrote the novel. It was originally based on his screenplay, so he just novelized it.

    American Gods ?

I have to agree with pisces--I think I was expecting too much of American Gods and was pretty heavily dissapointed. I liked Neverwhere and Stardust better. Although I couldn't stand Good Omens, I put most of that down to Prachett....
