I believe one of the overarching themes of the series is that honour is in the eye of the beholder, rather then the steadfast virtue we may have once believed of it.

That's strange, he always seemed to be ordered around a lot. I pictured him as more gaunt, perhaps, like the actor Željko Ivanek. Other then that I don't have any complaints with his casting. It's a non speaking role, as well, so it would have been financially unsound to cast anyone too major.
