    May's Marvellously Mysterious Manuscript Meanderings

I am finishing Anathem by Neal Stephenson. It is the smartest but most boring SF book I've ever read. Stay clear unless you enjoy reading Plato's Republic.

Your 'top-5' Sf-Fi books (no fantasy books please)

My solution to the space opera novels by Alastair Reynolds is to listen to them narrated by John Lee on the way to and fro from work. Lee's readings are terrific and the stories are rivoting. I have now listened to all Reynold's novels including Terminal World. Thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Your 'top-5' Sf-Fi books (no fantasy books please)

I am glad Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan made it on someone's list. I just finished the sequel, Broken Angels. That is a superb read also.

    Anathem

I have read the first 75 pages of Neal Stephenson's, Anathem. I am finding it over-written, dense and not heading anywhere. I do not want to give up on it yet because I am told it unfolds slowly and the concepts discussed are fascinating. I am wondering what forum members think of this work...

Post script: I just realized that the copy of Foundation I am re-reading was signed by Asimov. I barely remember the book signing event.

Can You Remember Your First Science Fiction Novel?

Foundation was my exposure to SF in the mid 60's. After reading most of what Asimov had produced it was already the early 70s and I started reading Larry Niven's works. Brings back fond memories. After all these years I am currently re-reading the Foundation triology. I had forgotten much of...

    What Asimov book.....

I completed, Robots of Dawn, the third book in the robot series. This book was written many years after Caves of Steel and Naked Sun. It is interesting to see how Assimov's writing reflects the social mores of decade when it was written. Bailey fully matures as a character. Very enjoyable.

    Asimov inconsistency; mistake or intentional?

In "The Naked Sun" (part of the robot series), the Solarian's do not detect that Daneel is a robot despite being the sophisticated roboticists in the Spacer worlds. However in the sequel, "The Robots of Dawn", Daneel says that the murderer of a robot on Aurora could not have been killed by a...

    What Asimov book.....

I just finished The Caves of Steal. I hadn't read a book by Asimov since 1973. I forgot how much I enjoy his writings. You've encouraged me to read The Gods Themselves.

    Ray Bradbury

The video induced me to re-read The Martian Chronicles. It had been over 40 years since the first time. The man has a rare way with prose.

Ender: too much of a good thing?

Hi Mulcebar. Thanks for the info. Although I am not Mormon or far to right, I think it is great to read good fiction from anyone that is not hateful. We can learn from the "Left" and the "Right".

    Recommendation

Thanks. Agree. Too bad that there is no more Dr. Sheffield. I am a scientist, and that is the way I like my SF.
