    Picture book narrative critique

Oh wow, I completely missed that. I haven't sent this to the agent yet, I was hoping to get a couple of opinions on it before doing so. I didn't really want to send something through if it's not good enough. Thanks for the offer, I'll send a pm through.

    Picture book narrative critique

Hey guys, I've been working with an agent on my picture book and the response from the publishers has been that they like the artwork but don't find the story compelling enough. As a result, I've gone back to the narrative and done a complete rewrite and I was hoping to get a couple of opinions...

    These gutters are killing me

Nah, I hate reading off a screen. In typical fashion though, a couple dozen pages after starting this thread, the gutter placement (or should that be text placement?) changed and the book's become perfectly readable again. Guess I must have gotten a bad print or something.

    These gutters are killing me

Half way through Lord of Chaos and I'm really struggling to read the thing because the printed font is so close to the margin. I'm reading the version with the illustrated front cover (white shirt) and I'm sure the other books didn't have this problem, but then I was reading a different print...

Wheel of Time TV pilot fiasco

I'm too scared to watch the embedded vid. Being half way through reading the series, I don't want my mental images of the world polluted by someone else's imagining (Looking at you GoT!!!). Heck, I even got annoyed that I couldn't find a copy of Fires of Heaven with the black cover/symbol and...

I've got Book One, should I take the plunge?

Well I'm half way through book 5 now and I have to say this has grown on me (again). Really enjoying Rand's thread and the stuff with the Forsaken. Nynaeve and Siuan Sanche annoy the crap out of me. The biggest annoyance I'm having with this series though is that, as I'm reading them without a...

    Wildfire - a Thief inspired 2D platformer

Well, that was pretty cool. We got twice what we were after in the end. Will let us hire a couple of extra people to do things on the game. Now I can stop hitting refresh on my browser every 30 seconds :D

    Wildfire - a Thief inspired 2D platformer

Cheers. I didn't have much input into the controls, but they remind me of another stealth game called Gunpoint which came out a year or two ago.

    Wildfire - a Thief inspired 2D platformer

Hey there. About nine months ago I got drunk and started chatting to one of the editors at Gamespot who said he was trying to make a videogame. In my state, I told him that I would love to do some graphics for him and sent some samples of my work. Turns out he liked it enough and I woke up the...

    A question about reusing assets

Thanks, I might get onto that sooner rather than later. Still undecided about the reuse of assets so I might just not use them. Guess it's better to be safe than sorry.

    A question about reusing assets

A couple of interesting perspectives on it, thanks. I should point out that the sprites that I created from the book were all static objects (so crates, paintings, knicks and knacks) so can't really have overt personalities attached to them. They're just objects used to make the world seem less...

Why do UK publishers use apostrophes instead of speech marks?

Every year that I've taught narrative, I've had this issue come up in class. I was taught to use speech marks, but I believe (and I could be wrong... never been bothered enough to check) that Australian print uses apostrophes. In the end I tell my students that they can use either one and they...

    A question about reusing assets

Hi, About six months ago I was commissioned to do some artwork on a small indie game. All that's been travelling fine and things are moving to the point where I think it get it published in some form or another. However, in the process of quickly knocking out some artwork for the game, I...

    Dawn of War

Is this a Warhammer 40,000 spin-off? If so, I think Dawn of War is already taken. I'm struggling to read it to be honest mate, the misuse of commas are really throwing me. POV is also a bit confusing. It sounds like it should be third person, but then shifts to first person and back again.

    Ryse: Son of Rome

Saw this pop up on Steam. Might wait for it to come on sale before I grab it, not really on the radar. I do like a bit of Roman world setting though so who knows?

    unsuccessful query letter

Yeah, I'll be looking at rejigging the query letter pretty soon, once I finish rewriting and reordering the rest of the panels. Not sending it out anywhere until those two things are done. About the name, Originally I had called it The Dwarven Tower but felt like it didn't slip off the tongue...

    conflict, bah - 430 words

I quite liked this myself. I picked up on the sense that there was something not quite right going on. Certainly if I was reading this as part of a larger text I think it would have worked well.

    unsuccessful query letter

Yeah, I've started using the forums over there. It's pretty massive, I tend to get a bit lost :D Thanks for checking.

    That children's book again

Okay, let's see if I can address everyone in one post :D HareBrain, The sparsity of the first couple of panels is something that I've tried to address. I have added a bit more clutter to them, though in a way I like having the book starting off as kind of serene and have each panel become more...
