    Great Historical Blunders

For all the complex reasons for ww1, I reckon ww1 was the greatest blunder of the last century. All those cousins who decided to have a go for various reasons of nationalism and sheer bloodymindedness. Also decidng that Uncle Joe was our friend instead of knocking off the soviets when the allies...

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)

Re: "Narnia" series to continue... Yeah, but Susan had turned into a stinky grown up! So she got what she deserved! On a more serious note, the books are actually quite dated in ters of their social perspectives. And yes, also by CS Lewis's religious ideas, but TLB does bracket the series well...

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)

Re: "Narnia" series to continue... I think the reason I love TLB is that I love the pictures. Especially that picture of Tash arriving which used to give me the most delicious creeps when I was a kid. The christian content of the books is obviously going to be an issue, but if they could think...

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)

Re: "Narnia" series to continue... I agree with hare Brain - TMN is my favourite too - I love the transformation of Fledge, and I think it would make a fantastic film. TLB would be very difficult to film, but I really cannot see how Narnia can be done justice without it. I will also be...

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)

Re: "Narnia" series to continue... I am still of the view that you cannot do Narnia any justice without The Magicians Nephew and the Last Battle. They are the stories that give context to the series and place it within a narrative. Just doing the middle ones makes it very light weight and...

    Matthew Reilly?

I know, I was only half way through the book when I realised that it was only part 1! Then with the cliffhanger at the end, not to mention Alby, I went to check on his website and see that 5 Great Warriors is coming out on 9 October 2009 - Hopefully that will also be here in South Africa. But I...

    Matthew Reilly?

Against my better judgement I really love his books. But I do wish he would refrain from the italics - it is a bit like haveing a laugh track: very annoying. I have just finished sacred stones and must now wait in anticipation for the next publicatio in October. He is rather glib with his...

    Stephen King - Cell

I thought the ending sucked. Which was a pity as it was the first time in about 8 years that I had enjoyed one of his books.

    Fringe

I never watch "serials" but I have been catching up with this. SO far ony seen the pilot and the second episode. Absolutely barmy - and I suspect very predictable. However, that said, very compelling and addictive.

What initially inspired you to get into Fantasy or Science fiction??

Probably my reading as a child - Finn Family Moomentroll, fairytales - I loved anything with a princess and a spell, ghost stories etc. Too this day I still love the shivers you get from really good spooky tales, travels through deep dwarven mines or people calling up wraiths.

    Todd mccaffrey is ruining pern!

I have'nt read Dragonheart, but I must agree that the two last ones I read - mainly about mining, and watchweyrs, were rather a bore. He has bad continuety and is nto very descriptive.

What was the last movie you saw?

Harry Potter and the mystery of the disappearing storyline - think it was supposed to be the order of the phoenix, but so superficial I forget.
