    Drood - Dan Simmons

I hadn't read that Simmons quote, but just from reading Drood I did not get the impression that he was trying to insult Collins' ability at all. Possible Spoilers It seemed to me that he was using Wilkie's increasing reliance on laudanum and a normal sense of competitiveness any genius will...

    Drood - Dan Simmons

paladin, i'd like to talk about it in depth, maybe we just preface things with the word SPOILER?

    Drood - Dan Simmons

yeah, it's narrated by Wilkie Collins, and discusses the last five years of Charles Dicken's life, after the Staplehurst accident. Wilkie likes to hit the laudanum pretty hard. The book has actually inspired me to check out some more Dickens (who I've only barely read) and Collins (who I've...

    Drood - Dan Simmons

Has anyone read this yet? I just finished this weekend and absolutely loved every word of it. I'll preface this by saying I'm a huge Dan Simmons fan, and I'm constantly amazed at how easily he floats between genres. Drood is a wonderful book. Dark, creepy, thought-provoking, evocative, the...

Book 12...and 13? A Memory of Light to be split in half due to size

I gotta say, after reading Sanderson's blog post, I'm finding it tough to be really upset about this news. And hey, we get a Wheel of Time book in November. Crazy to think though that I will have spent 20 years on this series when all is said and done. Wild....

yeah, looking forward to the Pratchett. Not sure why I waited so long, but I read 2 books last weekend and now I'm gobbling up whatever the used shop has. Never read S.L. Farrell, but the book sounded interesting. And had a nice big Martin rec, so figured I'd give it a shot...

Book 12...and 13? A Memory of Light to be split in half due to size

Oh, dear lord. A) That cover is ridiculous. B) I was getting used to the significance of 13 books, 14 ruins that. C) Having the whole thing written by the end of this year, and then waiting until the end of 2011 to be done with it seems a little extreme. D) How could they not sell a...

Have you stopped reading Wheel of Time?

Wow, i find it strange that folks were picking book 6 to give up on. The last 150 pages of that book are insane, and some of the best fantasy I've ever read. I was hooked before then, but the end of book 6 kept me going through the next few until I got to Knife, which again brought the series...

well, i'm no wert, but i would suggest you definitely read jordan. it's really an amazing series, and the fact that your wait for the later books will be nothing, i doubt you'll find them as objectionable as those of us who waited for them. they hold up pretty well upon re-read. i love this...
