    Are these books any good?

I thought the books were excellent. Sorry to hear the movie was awful, I can scratch that one off my list to see. ;)

    Ann Chamberlin

I recently read The Merlin of St. Gilles' Well by Ann Chamberlin. It's the first in a trilogy about Joan of Arc. I thought it was a decent read, though Joan is only a newborn in this book. I dwells mostly with the people who end up being her companions and enemies later on. It also has a heavy...

    Just finished GOTM

I'm currently reading Gardens of the Moon and am enjoying it. The plot and political intrigue are wonderfully written. The only thing bad about the book is the horrible book cover illustration. A woman wearing armor that exposes her cleavage...

    Seriously, read Mordant's Need

I agree with you Fried Egg. I recenty read Mirror of her Dreams and wasn't impressed with the characters. I thought they were rather dull and not much happened with the storyline. I definitely won't be reading the second book.

    Celia Friedman

The only book I've read by her is Black Sun Rising. I thought it was a good read, though I did think the ending was kind of corny.

    Thieves World

I finally got around to reading Turning Points and I thought it was a good read. The city of Sanctuary was very interesting and I also liked the way characters would show up in other stories. It made it seem more connected and real.

    Gregory Maguire

I'm not sure if I'll read more by him or not. I loved Wicked and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister. As for Lost, Mirror Mirror, and Son of a Witch...I didn't find them to be the same quality of writing.

    BORED of the Rings

I thought Bored of the Rings was just an ok read, not nearly as funny as I thought it would be.

The time traveller's wife - Audrey Niffenegger

I recently did a re-read of this. It was even better the second time around, and yes I had to cry a bit at the ending again.

    Garth Nix - Abhorsen

Anyone else disappointed with Lies of Locke Lamora/Ash?

I haven't read Ash, but I did read the Locke Lamora book. I thought it was an ok read, not great like the reviews were saying. I think it's because I don't like that style of writing though. I prefer more thoughtful, drawn out, character-driven books. And this one was more of the...
