Surely whoever wields the One ring is the Lord of the Rings as he is master of all the rings of power (with the exception of the hidden elvish rings!) Frodo, Gollum or Sauron might all ultimately have become the Lord of the Rings.
I thought the Butlerian Jihad was alright as a read as long a you tried to divorce it from the the Dune Cycle. It was far too long and too gorey for my tastes, and the whole Mecha aspect was an abomination... but what I did like was the whole Holtzman stroyline and the origins of the Bene...
"Stranger" is far too seminal to be anything but the most important! However I enjoyed "Friday" more. I think it was the bean-stalks that sold me on it. I always thought they were a great idea. I don't know which would pip it to the BEST novel award?
But what about "The Cat Who Walks Through...
Cornelius takes it for me without a thought! The Cornelius Chronicles are the only works by Moorcock that threaten to become more than just entertaining and could be argued are real literature.
