Laser Fusion - The Future of Energy Production?

An interesting piece - not least because I now know what a picosecond is (I love a good bit of trivia!) :) BBC NEWS | Science/Nature | Laser heats up the fusion future Monday, 19 May 2008 14:35 UK

    Doctor Who's Bafta Cymru triumph

Good to see and well deserved. I'd venture to suggest that it didn't actually have that much competition in these awards but I'd probably be booted out of the country!:)

    Season Finale - Series 4 - SPOILERS!!

Sounds interesting, to say the least. They must be pulling out all the stops to say goodbye to David Tennant.

    30.04: The Sontaran Stratagem

Not a lot to add. I really enjoyed the episode. Not only harking back to the Doctor Who episodes, but at times I felt I was watching one of the old Saturday morning matinees (Flash Gordon etc.) complete with cliffhanger. Good stuff! I only wish I was nine years old again, so I could enjoy it...

    30.03: Planet of the Ood

My favourite episode in this series so far by a mile. Alien landscape, good pacey plot. Liked the continuing 'missing bees' reference and the reference to the Doctor's song ending soon. But the main reason I enjoyed it - as DT said in Confidential - 'You've gotta love an Ood'!!

    30.01: Partners in Crime

Also hate the new theme tune. Didn't particularly like the episode or the oh-so-cute Adipose. But I can see how they would appeal to kids and it is, after all, a kids show and not really aimed at crinklies like me. I've also seen the second episode and wasn't over-enamoured with that, either...

    Insert Sad Face Here

I'm not an aspiring writer (except in my head - far too lazy to ever commit anything to paper!) but just wanted to offer my sympathy. It must feel terrible right now but I'm sure the stuff you come back with will be even better than the work you've lost, and at least it wasn't your entire lifes...

    R.I.P. Arthur C. Clarke

It's always sad to lose a great author. I'm sure, though, that he has inspired many more.

Marvellous March Manuscripts? So what are you reading this month?

Actually, Connavar, it was recommended to me by my new partner. She is into crime novels and has all of this series and other John Sandford books as well. So, I don't generally read crime authors and this is the first Sandford I've read. I'll let you know what I think when I've finished.

Marvellous March Manuscripts? So what are you reading this month?

Just started reading Certain Prey by John Sandford. The eagle-eyed amongst you will spot that this is not sci-fi. I've only read 10 pages and there's already been a rape and a separate (though related) murder. Could be a plot for the next series of Torchwood, I suppose.

Has anybody ever left the theater in the middle of a movie because it was so bad?

Never actually walked out. But very, very tempted several times during 'The Fellowship of the Ring'. I think the only thing that kept me in my seat was the fact that I'd waited eagerly for so many years for the film to appear, I wanted to give it every chance.

    the stand

By far my favourite King book. However, haven't read it for mant years and I'm sure I read the original 'abridged' version, and I don't think I'd want to plough through the other one! There's a lot to be said for a good editor.

    The dark side of environmentalism

Agree with that, Woodsman. I wonder just how long it will be before an organised extremist 'environmental' group emerges. Thankfully, the main environmental group, Greenpeace, while using 'direct action' methods that are non-harmful, also renounces any form of violence. So the recent tracking of...

    Hobbit Up For Auction

Too late to write a letter to Santa. I'll just have to hope I win the lottery before March. And selfishly, no, I wouldn't donate it to a museum. I'd just take it out every now and again and admire it, Fagin style.:D

Torchwood crosses the ocean to hit States

I suspect that Torchwood comes under the 'guilty pleasures' category and people don't like to admit that they like it. Or perhaps they just love to hate it.:D

    Ashes to Ashes

I was also unimpressed by the first episode. Apart from lacking the 'intrigue' element of Life on Mars, I didn't find the Keeley Hawes character, DI Drake, a very realistic female police officer from any era. At least, she's not like any I've ever met. I'll probably stick with it though, as...
