Discussion thread for 100-Word Anonymous Writing Challenge. March 2017.

Here are my guesses. It's funny, when I take a little more time to re-read the stories, then try to guess according to what I've learned about folks over the years, I always think 'Wow, I bet I have at least ten right!'...then it's always one or two. We'll see. :)

I don't know peoples writing styles well enough yet to take a stab at putting names to stories. Maybe a few months of these will give me more experience
 
No worries, dannymcg! Guessing is just for fun, and isn't mandatory. The 75 and 300 word writing challenges are terrific for learning others' styles, since the author's name goes up at the same time as the story. Maybe you could give those a go next month, too! Nice to see you in a challenge (I think you're in this challenge...a part of this informal 100 worder is folks pretending they either have, or haven't entered, in the attempt to throw off others in the guessing round...sounds kind of batty, now that I type that out...but we still do it!:)).

I won't embarrass Cat's by giving him his score, but I will tell you that you only have one possibility of doing worse than him, Danny.
And I think he was the one who invented the game in the first place. :p
 
Oh no...only one right? So I would beat a person who didn't enter at all only by one?? :) Honestly, at least I have proved that the guessing part of the challenge must be the most challenging part of all (writing is easy!), so feel free, anyone, to jump in.

And while I don't think I actually invented the guessing part of the challenge, I certainly have brought it to its nadir. ;)
 
Been looking at the poll.
Sixteen entries but only fifteen votes - is this a routine thing?
Does someone leave it until the last hour and award a pity vote?
Is there some tactic I haven't cottoned on to at play here?

Sometimes people forget, sometimes people enter just the once and never visit the site again - even to vote. And sometimes people who don't enter, vote. And, as you say, there's a handful who vote at the last minute.
 
Don't forget, Danny, that the sun never sets on the Chrons; and while many members forgo sleep in order to be connected 24 hours a day, some don't, and may be snoring their heads off even as we speak.

Even such as they are welcome to vote when they get up later.
 
Another point, that you may not have noticed:

There are, as you say, 16 entries.
There are, however, 17 authors.
I have prevailed upon a member who has not entered, this month, to allow me to add their name to the list.
That way, when you make your guesses, you are not forced either to leave your own story off the list, or to deliberately get two wrong, in order to avoid putting your own name against your own story. (assuming you're certain of the other 15)

It was hard to choose this month.

Two of my favourites were 'A Hawk with no name' for it's uniqueness and 'I'd Give it Ten Minutes or so."

I voted for 'Knocking on Heaven's Door' because out of all the stories, it stuck in my memory the most.

I tried to do a list of guesses, but to be honest, I haven't the foggiest.

Congratulation the hidden author of Greater Good Ghosts.

I will reveal the list on the 31st to allow you to keep guessing, but if the winner wants to think of a new theme and genre, it will be used for the anonymous challenge in MAY.
I am assuming that we have one, which also assumes someone wants to host it.
(For those of you who don't know, we don't run the anonymous challenge in the same month as the 300 word challenge, which we should have one of in April)

So.
A theme and genre to me please from the winning author.
And a volunteer to be the next host.

Well, as this is an anonymous challenge, I would like to claim ownership of Greater Good Ghosts!

I would like to...but unfortunately I did not actually write that wonderful, remarkably effective story. Congratulations to our winner, and to everyone who participated. The stories were terrific, and it was a lot of fun reading our mini-westerns. And wonderful hosting, farntfar, really. :)

Congrats to all the authors who aren't me. Many delightful stories.
