NYC Midnight Short Story competition 2017

Is it a good story, though? I swear, if I make it to the finals, I will plotz.

I like it! But then, I liked my first round story, too. :D And there were some real shockers that I couldn't believe didn't make it to the next round, so it's impossible to tell.

Final round assignment, which I have 23 hours and 40 minutes to write:

-Open genre
-Sunrise
-An undertaker.

Chewing on it...

You said you would plot if you got this far, but that may not be a good idea -- don't change what works! :D

Can't get my brain away from vampires, which seems too obvious. Got a story going of two stoned guys who have been up all night talking and smoking weed, and one of them's a mortician who had this body that was inexplicably burned to death at sunrise. Not sure I love where it's going. May have to start fresh in the morning.

Well, if you come up with anything in the next couple of hours and need another set of eyes on it, I'm probably here.

The winning stories I read, tended to be 'literary' in style. But, having said that, I really like the concept you mentioned. Filmesque. Even if you don't win, I see a good movie pitch there....
You could add a bit of pathos, if the dead guy is an old friend, and they're engaging in a mini wake. Dark humour with pathos.
Yup, I likes it.

Alright I'm going with a sequel to my first story - the depressed exterminator mourning his dead boyfriend. It's now six months later and he's reminiscing. Flashbacks to the funeral parlor. He and his boyfriend used to watch the sunrise together. Hits all the buttons.

You killed him? You killed him!

Striking that. I'm not entirely awake yet, and thought you'd killed one of the two in the last story. You said "first story" and "exterminator", so the fault is my brain's. :p
