People being "fished" by aliens? Ring a bell?

In a small town, a couple of fishermen notice that people keep going missing. They discuss this as they create their fishing flies, talking about how it's the art of the fisherman to fool the fish into thinking the counterfeit flies are real.

One of the fishermen is in a grocery store when he sees the label on a bottle of, I think, ketchup is misspelled. He leaves it and takes the one behind it. The woman next to him doesn't notice the label issue, takes the bottle, and the next day she's vanished.

Clearly, people are being fished by aliens creating counterfeit products, and only those clever enough to notice the subterfuge avoid being caught.

Anyone remember who wrote this story? It must be thirty years since I read it...

Sheckley - yes, that's quite likely. Care to pin it down to a specific title?

Hi,

Fishing Season was about aliens from another dimension "fishing" people from a small town. It was part of a collection "The People Trap and Other Pitfalls" which had a lot of really good short stories - most of them based on brilliantly absurd premises. He was an amazing mind.

Cheers, Greg.

Same as a few I've replied to recently this original question was from years ago.
I just feel an overwhelming urge to slam in the answer - unlike my schooldays, teacher would come out with an amazingly simple question and three or four suck ups would raise their hand.
I used to glance around at the bewildered faces in the rest of the class and inwardly shake my head; however I always kept my hands firmly down to 'fit in".

In this forum it ain't showing off, it's sharing the knowledge with fellow SFF fans
