Silly question for men with long hair?

Late to this discussion. Back in mid seventies I had really long hair past shoulders. Like most of my contempories, however none of us would have even considered tying our hair back or pony tail - way too girly! . Instead we all used the unconscious flick every few seconds, this was a phenomenon reported in the press at the time " Britains teenagers are getting twitches, get a haircut young man!" Etc. Further to this , four years ago I was at a school reunion and some old band was there bashing out seventies classics. A few drinks and up on the dancefloor, wife started giggling, it turned out that I was subconsciously doing the flick when dancing, sadly without the long hair! . Sat out a couple of songs and noticed other men my age also doing this flick ! No pony tails for us, no way

Am I the only hirsute gentleman who looked at this thread and genuinely couldn't think what he called them? Not that I have a ponytail very often.

I've never been much inclined to tie back my mane. The Puff Head isn't prone to flipping over the eyes; and way too fluffy to conform to anything resembling a ponytail.

My daughters were occasionally inclined to do experimental games with my hair. Usually with Scrunchies. Scrunchie being the brand name for a particular sort of pleated fabric-over-elastic bit which wouldn't get so painfully tangled as a bare elastic band.

The other bit which appeared frequently about every surface of a house with two daughters, was a skinny elastic band simply known as a "hair-tie."

I have long hair, I call it a hair tie, hair band, bobble.

Elastic bands? Seriously? that just sounds unpleasant.

I guess I should have called them "Thingies" to avoid confusion with the sort of elastic band that holds a rolled-up newspaper.
