Honor Harrington film

Yup. For one thing, it's odds on the lead for an action movie such as this would be black. (Hollywood would expand the action sequences, of which there are some in the HH stories, to make up most of the movie.) And, of course, having a working monarchy and feudal system as part of the story would be right out. They would butcher it. Heck, the Peeps would probably be the heroes!

I doubt she would be black. Remember she has "oriental" blood, which would make her interesting. Also the monarch is black, the movies would love that, and I think a working monarchy might be seen as something that has real possibilities.

I would not worry too much about casting for height. And I doubt Hollywood does either. I mean look at who was cast as Jack Reacher.

Of course having read no Jack Reacher books, nor have I seen the movie I can't really comment. But IIRC Jack Reacher is like 6'4" while the character who played him is like 5'10" --- So.... But Honor's height is a big then in the early books, and I don't know that about the Jack Reacher books.

Tom Cruise is 5'7". :)

But as my mom was fond of pointing out, the great Western actor Alan Ladd was only 5'6" and they had to have him stand on a box to film the scenes where he was with someone (like a woman) in a close-up, so he would appear properly tall and dashing.

Not sure if Honor could work on a box, with all that coup di vitesse going on. :D

In fact it was even worse than that - Reacher was supposed to be 6'5": 10 inches taller than Cruise. Alan Ladd looked fine while on the box, but as soon as he was shown walking down the street he looked tiny!

How hard can it be to find a tall actress?

Good point! The Asian looks might be harder to team up with the size however.

And me.

Though I really hope they would resist the temptation to mess around too much with the story, characters, events, dialogue, etc, etc, as most productions do these days (The Hobbit films, anyone?).

A nice, accurate film of On Basilisk Station would be just perfect...

Sadly I fear your hope is a little more optimistic than my fears.
