Super (Secret) 8

I was wondering what you all think of putting sort of technical requirements for each future iteration of the SS. After all this the workshop area and I figure it might behoove us to have to write with specific skills in mind. For example the technical/craft theme could be 'omniscient POV' so that we're forced to write outside of our usual.

What do you think?

Yeah, sounds good to me Phyre.

@DG Jones

Full on sentient robo-tiger would be nice, y'know, looks like a tiger, chuffs like a tiger, but is a robot.

Your thought of it having a human in control is interesting, like a drone - Awesome Tiger Drone, oh yeah! :D

That would be a good idea. However, if we're going to do that, then the theme requirements should a little looser than they sometimes are, I would think. I mean, don't combine "second person future tense" as a requirement with "A steampunk western set on the Moon with all the characters based on Warner Brother cartoons, and at least one scene containing giant water pistols."

Something like "unreliable narrator" combined with "urban fantasy" would be more appropriate, if you see what I mean.

Hi Victoria, do you mean our requests should be simpler, or am I misunderstanding you? I certainly agree the themes should be simpler if that's what you mean.

Full disclosure; I said omniscient because I've never written that and fancy a try. Especially because my favourite-ever book The Elementals is is omni and I'm wondering if I could manage that.

Is it to be a group technical theme or people adding technical themes to their ideas?

I suppose I should probably commit. I know I'll get peer pressured into it at the next meet up anyway ;)

Yep, that's what I meant, Victoria.

Peat, I think the format being vetted here is something like: overall technical craft (not technology); request theme; genre.

the admin sets the technical craft, the other two come from each participant.

E.G. Poetry/childhood/horror.

Am I making sense?

We could go the route of randomly assigning certain elements. Maybe POV could just be whatever you get assigned, ideally with the roll of a dice. We could even go as far as assigning genre that way too.

I think I'd like to participate in this.

Can I request something related to deserts and floating rock?

I don't really mind the genre. Surprise me.

In, I am.

I'd like deep dark caves and something scary and horrific. The inclusion of Greek myths gets bonus points.

Count me in.

Combine H.P. Lovecraft with Douglas Adams (or suchlike). Something like, "So long and thanks for all the tentacles." Hilarious madcap adventures in a horrific non-Euclidian nightmare world of elder Gods from space. Make it weird. Make it scary. Make it funny.

Ok, I'm in. My request is fairly simple.

Genre: Horror
Setting: On a boat, at sea
Theme: Failure
Device: Told entirely through diary entries (could be more than one person's diaries).

Oh man, I want to write this....
