I'm looking for a short story. I can't remember the title or the author's name (or this would be easy). The plot line is as follows:
An extraterrestrial confederation has discovered Earth. During their preliminary survey, they find that about half of Earth's population has a condition which turns their skin an unpleasant color. Wishing to help, they do a great deal of research and finally find a cure for the condition. The last paragraph of the story says, "Don't worry, people of Earth. If any of you are still white, we can cure you."
Can anybody help me? I remember the author as being one of my favorites. Not Asimov, Bradbury, or Heinlein. Simak? Lieber? I just don't remember. It was a long time ago.
Thanks for any help you can give.
