Super (Secret) 8

Has it really been so long? Jeez. Despite getting far too stressed last time, I'm in, as it was too good an exercise to miss out on, but I'll have to have a think about what I'd like.

I'm up for it.
I'd love to read a story about an MC that steals something in order to hunt something/someone down.

Sorry gang, but I will have to sit in the sidelines again. Too much Woodbridge to do...school starting soon, and novel to make readable.

I will def try the next one. Go Phyre!

Enough people are in for me to make this a go, and I expect John Hammond will be joining us when he sees this thread, and come to our rescue by submitting multiple stories. :D

Rather than start a new thread, I suggest we use this one for the requests, bearing in mind people already have asked here.

So....

From now until Sep 30th, you may post details in this thread about what type of story you'd like to receive: it could be a genre with a specific MC, or a twist on a specific location. By posting a request you're effectively "registering" to write a story for somebody else.

By 9th October I will pair up requests for the participants and send them out.

Stories should be submitted to me by 18th December.

As this is an informal, non-moderated challenge the following guidelines on particpation etiquette have evolved over the past two or so years. This is a really good opportunity for writers to workshop an idea and hone their skills. Although we don't have the strictures of the 75 or 300 word challenges, it is still a challenge to complete a story that doesn't run away with itself.
  • There is no word limit as such, but aiming for 1k-10k words would seem reasonable.
  • Whilst the pieces do not appear in their entirety on the forum, and so writing standards are a little more relaxed it is polite to assure that at least an excerpt-worth be family friendly: please no gornography or gratuitous erotic razzamataz. If the full length version is to be attached, this holds for the submission as a whole
  • When you've finished your story, you send it to the admin - in this instance phyrebrat - and who'll pass it on to the person who initially requested that story so they do not know who wrote it.
  • When all stories have been submitted (by 18th December), the Admin will post excerpts in a guessing thread and we will try and guess who wrote which one - it is a fun exercise identifying Chrons members' voices in their writing.
  • After a week or so of guessing, the authors will be revealed. I have been watching Debbie McGee so that I can do this with sufficient aplomb.
  • Inter alia, at the end, if all parties agree, I can post the full stories for those who want it.
  • If you request a story, and you by extension receive a request from somebody else, WRITE ONE!
Normally, admin doesn't write a story, but I might...

Happy writing!

Oh, I'm in. I enjoy these - and sometimes even those I've written for appreciate them too. I just haven't a subject that I just lack the inspiration for right now - but there's time yet.

Oh, so tempting! I wanted to do one again, because I've run out of stories to submit anywhere, but I think I'll be too busy with Woodbridge, too! Timing, arrrrgh timing. I do think I'd like to volunteer to run the next one, though, if nobody else is interested. It was fun last time.

I'm in. I'd like a story about someone who is at some point or another free-floating in space in just a spacesuit. It can be on purpose, an accident, sabotage, or whatever, and doesn't have to be the main thread of the story. It'd be nice to have an insight into what that character goes through emotionally and how (if) they get back to the safety of a ship/orbital base/whatever.

It needs to involve a robotic Tiger.

Which definition of "robotic" are you going by for this story, Vaz? I mean, is it purely a mechatronic tiger, basically a chassis with moving bits, like the ones you see at the Science Museum that move their heads and open their mouths, or decision-making capability based on on-board environmental modelling and runtime data fusion, or at least a sliding scale of adjustable autonomy relayed to a human operator? Or does this one go the whole hog and have some sort of sentience? I REALLY need to know
