Basically, they have around 600 manuscripts for second-reads. Better odds than the lottery. Just about--

Much better. You are more likely to find a bin bag of money in the street, which remains unclaimed, or get hit by a meteor than win the lottery. It's a tax on the poor.

Nice of them to share what goes on behind the curtain, although I'd have thought they would have whittled the number down to a hundred or two at most. Still, good news for all of us left in. Good luck everyone!

P.P.S. Before anyone asks... I won't be submitting to it or any other open doors for some time to come for various reasons... and if I told you the truth you good people just would not believe me.

Apparently the rejections have started up again. Someone on another forum (AW) received a physical card in the post. It was a form rejection with the name of the book handwritten in a space left for it.

Darn. Now we have to watch our letter boxes as well as our inboxes!

You were right -- as usual! She was in the mix for all three open submissions and just assumed it was Hodderscape. It was indeed Gollancz.

Definitely Gollancz, I received an identical card through the post yesterday. Not a suprise as my manuscript wasn't a comfortable fit with what they were looking for, Although I didn't expect to get something back so soon.

March form update.

Please be patient with us as we cross this final submissions hurdle! If you submitted a manuscript and received a notification email last August then we have accepted and logged your submission. We have already been in touch with the majority of people who submitted and are now whittling down the remaining submissions and deciding which to move forward with.

We will eventually be in touch with every single person who submitted a manuscript during our open submissions window. Again, if you submitted and you have not yet heard back, then we are still considering your submission.

That may well be understandable. I can see why people would get in touch, just to confirm they're still being considered, but given the numbers it could be creating quite a lot of work just replying and saying "Yes, that is the case."
