Lost: Season Four

Well, we have been promised a very intense season. It will not premiere until February 2008 with 16 episodes. Here are the spoilers so far:

There will be a Rousseau flashback eventually. In it, it will talk about Montand and his arm.

They will be revisiting the psychic's predictions for Claire in the future as well as Walt's abilities. The Others' obsession with children and pregnancy goes beyond the inability to successfully bear children on the island. The Other's definitely have an interest in children with special abilities. That's why they took Walt. There are two factions of The Others and are in no relation to the hatches/stations.

the smoke monster will not be explained until the end of the series.

Next season of Lost will feature BOTH flashbacks and flash-forwards.

There will definitely be a lot more of Jacob in Season 4.

Desmond will have to deal with the aftereffects and the guilt of [Charlie's death]. He will question whether or not Charlie would have made this sacrifice, had he not told him that was what he was going to do? He will question the role he played in Charlie's death.

The Comic-Con Lost panel started off with a clip featuring Ben calling the Others a "rebel sect" and Tom (M.C. Gainey) saying "By the time you see this, I will be dead." Then, a voice-over in the clip revealed "The survival of the Island is now at stake. Carlton Cuse told that Rachel probably won't be on the Island. Cuse and Damon Lindelof warned fans to not get too attached to the character of Richard Alpert because actor nestor Carbonell is part of the regular cast of the new CBS show Cane. Cuse said that flashbacks and flashforwards will both be part of the upcoming season. Lindelof nodeed furiously when asked if Jack and Claire would find out they are related. He also confirmed that Ben and Henry Gale had words. The duo revealed that Harold Perrineau is indeed returning as Michael Dawson but they don't want to reveal how or when he returns; however, Damon Lindelof claimed that he would return ealy in the fourth season. Lindelof added that "[Michael] too some extreme actions" and that his story is about the power of the Island to be redemptive. Cuse confirmed that it is their "intention to get to Libby's story this year." They revealed that "there are important things going on in Danielle's story and they have to sync up." They will work on syncing those things this season or the next one. Lindelof confirmed that the whole deal with the moster will be answered. The Lost panel present a never-before see Dharma film. It is hosted by Marvin Candle but the man presents himself as Dr. Edgar Halifax [Note: It sounds more like Haliwax]. The film is about bunnies but more specifically about Bunny #15. Candle indentifies this station as Station 6, The Orchid. Then, he goes on to say that the viewer has probably realized by now that he or she is not working at a mere botanical research unit. He apologizes for making him or her lie to friends and family members about the nature of the work. He mentions something that sounds like "Kasimir effect" and mentions the "unique properties of the Island." Then there's one of Jacob's subliminal messages. It may have been some variation on "as Jacob loves you." Then there's a bunny riot. One of the station's alarms blares, Dr. Halifax/Marvin panics. There's an intercut clip of someone riding a bicycle. The clip is inserted upside-down, and the rider appears to be in the village of Otherville... And then, amid the chaos (perhaps this is the Incident?), the filmstrip slides off the reel.

They have made a radio call to a freighter, and there are people on that freighter, and it might be logical to imagine that that storyline will continue... The situation is going to be very intense this year. Charlie wrote on his hand not Penny's boat , and the message he wrote on his hand was very important. It was really funny because the clip at Comic-Con showed Mr. Friendly saying, 'by the time you see this, I'm gonna be dead, but I am telling you it's a shame because whoever is going to come after the Others is going to be a hell of a lot worse than we ever were.' Damon and I were listening to him and sort of nodding our head going, 'That's pretty prophetic.' With Jin and Sun there is a very dynamic situation at work. She's pregnant... the fate of her child, the fate of their marriage, all those questions Damon and I will get to and more this season. Walt will be back.

Who is on that frieghter and are they good or bad is a significant part of next years' show. [...] If Naomi was lying about working for Penny... who says there even is a boat?

Anyhow, those are some interesting hints about the next season. I've heard most of them before and I'm looking forward to February!

Saw a preview on ABC for the premiere of season 4 on January 29th.

A new set of characters arrive on the island. It said some of the survivors will leave the island while others will not. It featured Hurley, Locke, Jack, Kate and Sawyer mostly.

If you go the abc.com website, you can get a small preview of the new season as well as some interesting video journals from a new character named Sam onboard a ship some 300 km off Indonesia searching for the Black Rock (the sailing ship that is found on the island).

Oh, and the 2-hour premiere is on January 31st and not the 29th as I previously reported.

So, the Premiere last night and many questions. I have not seen it yet, you may want to stop reading now.

Hurley's Flashforward:
I really liked this bit. Now, in terms of timelines, it's evident that it's before Jack's flashforward from last season's finale since he had not grown his beard yet. But it did reveal a number of things and of course leave you with more questions:

1) Who are the Oceanic 6? Hurley yells this when arrested and is again reminded of this when interviewed by Ana-Lucia's former partner. We know who 3 of them are - Hurley, Jack and Kate - but who are the other three. There are some hints. First, there's Desmond's vision of seeing Claire and the baby board a helicopter and him telling Charlie that if the did not turn off the jamming signal, she would never leave the island. Although I'm not sure of the baby would count? Second, there's the funeral that Jakc goes to in his flashforward. Who is in the coffin? Well, we know that Kate did not go (nor did anyone else) and when Jack was asked if he was friend or family, he said neither. So, it could either be Ben or Locke. My hunch is leaning more towards Locke because Jack was going to kill him last night if that gun had been loaded, Hurley in his flashforward tells Jack that he should not of gone with Locke, so conclusion is that something really bad happens and Locke gets blamed. lastly, there's Sawyer and in Jack flashforward, Kate tells him she has to go because he will wonder where she is. Although, last night Kate made a choice to stay with Jack and Sawyer made a choice to "survive".
2) Why did Charlie appear to Hurley? First of all, in their conversation, Charlie confirmed that he was dead but indeed there and even slapped Hurley to prove it. So is he a ghost or a figment of Hurley's imagination like the man in the bathrobe from his last stay in an institution (Dave)? I say no on the later since the other patient also say Charlie. But the important part of Charlie's message is that Hurley needs to help the others. By this, I assume he means the Oceanic 6. I also assume he means by getting back to the island since Hurley later tells Jack they need to back, which Jack later repeats to Kate.
3) Who is the man who came to visit him? He posed as a lawyer for Oceanic but clearly wasn't. Then, he asked him if he knew if the others were still alive. What others? The ones left behind on the island? So, clearly only 6 actually make it off the island and are the others leaft behind, dead, chose to stay, a combination? And who did he work for? The Others or the people on the boat who Ben said were bad people trying to find the island for a long time? And if so, then why? Likely for the same reasons as the Dharma Initiative for the islands "special' powers. They could be military since we remember there was a man who Sayid knew from the US military and who Desmond lived with for 2 years.
4) What is this big secret that Jack and Hurley are hiding? Whatever it is, it's something very big.

Jacob:
5) Does Hurley also have a special connection to the island? We saw Jacob again last night and who I think was Locke with him when Hurley looked into the house. Obviously, Jacob did exactly what Ben said he hoped would happen to Locke after he shot him: he helped Locke get out of the Dharma mass grave and Locke does not even seem hurt for a man that was shot in the stomach. Hurley also saw the house reappear in front of him and then, just like he did with Charlie in the flashforward, he closed his eyes and wished it to go away. I think just the fact he saw Jacob was perhaps a hint that Hurley does indeed have a special connection.

Naomi and the "freighter people":
6) Well, who are they and what do they want? I speculate a bit who they are but I'm really not sure. What threw me off was the fact that Naomi did not kill Kate for the phone and she lied about how she was injured.

Man, last night was CRAZY! I can't wait either.

In regards to your number 2, I still think Charlie might be a figment of his imagination. Hurley could imagine the other guy telling him that he saw Charlie. I don't know. I'm really bad at theorizing. <--Is that a word?

Wow, last night was another very revealing and indeed tense episode.

What we learned:
1) Locke would not have survived being shot by Ben had he not lost his kidney. He also told us that Walt was the one who appeared to him and told him what to do.
2) Hurley let it slip that he saw Jacob's cabin. Which peaked Locke and Ben's interest. Also, Locke's reaction tells us that he was not the other person we saw in the cabin with Jacob last week when Hurley looked in the window.
3) We saw footage of the plane on the bottom of the sea.
4) I am unsure whether what we saw were flashbacks or flashforwards of our 4 new arrivals on the island: Daniel, Miles, Charlotte and Frank. The one at the beginning with Daniel watching it on TV and him crying to me seemed more of a flashforward but he did not know why he was upset. Someone erased his memories? The one with Charlotte finding the polar bear skeletton in Tunisia and the Dharma collar was intriguing. She was visibly excited to be on the island. Then, there's Frank who it seems was a pilot with Oceanic and saw that the footage they were showing of the pilot's body was a fake.
5) That Ben knew who they were from the beginning and that he has spy onboard their ship (George - the one who always answers the phone?). But why do they want Ben? Why did Charlotte not recognize him at first or was she just hiding it well? And how is Ben communicating with the person on the boat?
6) We saw the man that was in Hurley's flashforward again in a flashback with Naomi and instructing him about the team and the target - Ben. Who is he and who does he work for? Dharma? Naomi was obviously ex-military and some sort of mercenary the way she spoke.

We also now know that the "Oceanic lawyer" that came to Hurley was actually representing the four just sent to the island. I am pretty sure the scenes of the four were flashbacks, and hints as to why they went to the island. It also seems clear that they knew the Survivors were there... the pilot, at least, knew the bodies at the bottom of the ocean were faked, and Naomi openly questioned the "lawyer" about what to do if they met the Survivors.

Ben... well, he could be lying about having someone "on the boat," but clearly he knows about the group, and presumably, what they really want. Since the group knows about him, it is likely that he somehow infiltrated the group, learned about something important, and now he's trying to use that information before the newcomers (should we call them Rescuers?) can stop him.

Ben: Still my least favorite character. Maybe he's actually trying to do something good... but do you really believe it? I don't. And if he was, wouldn't he FRICKIN' TELL SOMEONE?!? At least, tell Jack and Locke, to keep the Survivors off his back? His lack of willingness to be forthcoming damns him in my eyes... he can't be up to anything but no good. I can't believe no one's killed him yet, just because they're sick to death of him...

Lots of good reveals in last night's ep, like:

• Sayyid is one of the "Oceanic Six." But in the flash-forward he's apparently working as a hit man... and he's working for Ben! Ben suggested that it is part of some kind of a deal to keep his friends safe. I'm not sure if Sayyid agrees.
• Two of the Six left to be revealed. Desmond may be one of the Six, as he joined Sayyid on the 'copter out.
• Sayyid examines the bracelet on Naomi's wrist. It is apparently the same as the bracelet worn by the girl he was wooing in Berlin (to get to her boss). We can presume from this that they were working for the same organization.
• Sayyid discovered Ben's secret cache of... clothing? Well, it did include multiple IDs and passports. Ben apparently got around, "moving secretly amongst us"...
• The island may be about 30 minutes out of sync with the rest of the world! (Serious WTF?!? moment there!) Daniel, one of the Rescuers, has figured out something very weird is going on, but he doesn't know what. He did have the presence of mind to warn the 'copter pilot not to veer from the heading they took to get to the island.
• Sawyer asked Kate to stay on the island with him, because "there's nothing for either of us to go back to." Good Mars-Venus moment: She's willing to take her (slim) chances in the outside world... he just wants to find a place to be happy now, even if that life is wholly artificial. Will Sawyer eventually leave the island to be with Kate? I'm not so sure...
• When Sayyid (in the flash-forward) points out to Ben that whoever they're planning to kill now knows he's coming, Ben's reply: "Good." Those wheels keep turning...

I don't see how Desmond can be one of the "Oceanic Six" since he wasn't one of the plane crash survivors. The same for Danielle, Alex, Karl, and Juliet, who probably don't want to stay on the island either.

Maybe the name "Oceanic Six" came out of the media frenzy surrounding the lawsuit and the settlement instead of the rescue. Which could mean that any of the above could be rescued, too, and not count toward the six.

The big question in my mind at this point is whether Sayid was working for Ben to save the other five who escaped the island, or his friends who were still there.

Obviously, the assassinations we saw happened several months, if not years, after Sayid left the island, since his hair had grown a few inches and there was gray in his beard.

I was under the impression it was to protect those that were still on the island, but we have no way of knowing for sure at this point.

Oh, yeah: Weirdest thing seen in the ep- Sayid playing golf. (Don't know why... it just looked like the last thing you'd ever see Sayid doing.)

Funniest thing- Sayid telling the girl in Berlin, when she asked what he does: "I'm a headhunter."

Remember Desmond's vision from last season and the reason Charlie sacrificed himself. The vision was Claire and the baby getting on a helicopter and leaving the island. She can be one of the Oceanic 6. Not sure if the baby would count.

I remember that too, though getting off the 'copter may not be the same as making it back... we'll have to see. If she does, I'm guessing the baby won't count as one of the six, but we'll see about that, too.

That rules out Claire as being in the coffin, then, since Jack denied being family to whomever it was. (Of course, he may not know, even in the future...)

The fact that Ben is in Sayid's flashfoward also would likely exclude him from being the person in the coffin. My bets are on Locke at this point.

So, is Aaron (Claire's baby) one of the Oceanic 6? They didn't really introduce him as such but he clearly made it off the island. The timelines would fit with the child we saw at the end of last episode if when Kate's mother said her life changed some 4 years ago when she learned Kate was dead (i.e. when the plane disappeared). And what happened to Claire? My guess is something terrible as she would certainly not let her baby go willingly. And did Kate lie to Sawyer about not being pregnant to judge his reaction? A test he failed miserably, might I say.

Also, timelines are a little weird as Kate's flashforward seems to be some time before Jack has his breakdown, while Hurley's is right about the time he is having it.

Why would Miles ask for the exact sum of $3.2 million for his silence? There must be a reason and there is no way Ben would make such a bargain and if he did, he would ensure that both Miles and Charlotte are dead soon after. And why did Charlotte not tell Dan that they found Ben and he's Locke's prisoner?

The black man who recruited Naomi to find Ben and who visited Hurley in the hospital is named Matthew Abaddon. In the bible, abaddon is hebrew for "place of destruction". My guess is he works for Dharma and they want revenge. But that may be too simplistic.

And, through all this where is Richard and the Others?
