So she has finished the HP books, but what is she going to do now?
retire with the fortune she has made?
continue writing?
wha sort of books will/can she write

FYI she has already written another novel about monsters, a new children's book aimed at younger readers that is described as "a political fairy story". She's also working on a more adult novel.

She hasn't needed to write for the money since about Goblet, certainly Phoenix. At least in this series it's been about finishing and personal goals. Any future project will only ever need to be about her desire to tell a story, or at least do something to fill the time between reading bank statements. ;) She's also already indicated the possibility of writing down all her background material, perhaps padded with existing canon descriptions into an encyclopedia (at some point): this heads down the path of keeping the existing fans happy with more HP universe.

Well if she wanted she could go do a merry jig all around Scotland. If she enjoys writing then why not write more?

She's said that she's got two projects on the go at the moment, one for adult one for children, and of course the encyclopedia somewhere down the line.

Hmmm, I don't think she can make it outside The HP Books, to be honest. I do enjoy her writing but she'll just be giving us constant reminders in her Writing Style.

Her first book outside HP will sell like anything, because of HP people will be expecting something good.

I think if the author's talented enough, he/she can successfully cast off their previous characters and start afresh. Unless, of course, she wants to leave a little bit of her HP characters in her new ones. After all, they've certainly been popular.

She should cast them off. It will make for more interesting books if she does.

That's my opinion too. I think she'll start with completely new characters and personalities - which will give us more people to get to know and love.

Possibly love and know. We don't know what her writing will be like outside of HP. Hopefully it will at least be decent.

Mmm I think that would be interesting...if she can pull it off.

Possibly the best thing about the HP books was the characteristics of the characters. All of them had something in them that made you want to read on just to see what will happen to them.

I'm not sure she could pull off this attraction in crime novels. It's a different style of writing all together

Yeah but as I said, it will only be good if she can pull it off, though she did pull of parts of HP quite well...

actually she needn´t write another book =) She has enough money ^^ but maybe she will write another book... I hope so ^^ I like her books

Writers that write merely for money are called hacks, and I don't believe J.K. to be one. Despite her successes her novels have remained of a certain quality and retained their charm throughout.

I think the epilogue of DH leaves things wide open for JK to do a retrospective / "what happened during the intervening 19 years", after everyone's had a bit of a HP rest (say about 5 years). Certainly the way the whole last few pages of DH was written points pefectly towards that - and maybe then we can get some of the huge gaps filled in!!!

I wanna know what happened to: the Wesleys (how did they cope with Fred's death?); McGonagall, Sprout, Flitwick & Slughorn; most of the students whom we know didn't die, especially Luna, Seamus, Dean & Malfoy; the Dursleys......and of course how Harry's, Ron's and Hermione's careers panned out. And that's just for starters!!!

If she writes something new, especially something more adult, I will almost certainly put it on my "to read" list. And I will try to keep an open mind. Yes, even a crime novel, if that's what she's planning. (That ABC news article seemed a little sketchy.) I'm not a big fan of crime novels. But then, I didn't think I was a big fan of YA fiction. And here we are.
