** THERE WILL BE SPOILERS IN THIS THREAD **

A man hires Harry when he thinks he is being haunted by his daughter who was killed in a robbery.

Airdate: 01/28/07

Aside from the fact that SciFi's commercials for this episode were annoying as anything and almost seemed to give away too much, the episode was good.

On first viewing, I think it was stronger than the first episode.

Though, I will say, with the change in the airing line-up, we had to 'body switching' episodes in a row, which I don't think they considered. (Not as big a hang-up as it could be, since the skin-walker wasn't seen on-screen in more than one 'skin'.)

I'm not sure, yet, how I feel about Harry being able to cook like a normal person - burnt garlic bread not-withstanding. However - is spaghetti the only thing he knows how to make? He was making that in the last episode too.

But on to the show:

Hauntings are cool
Voodoo dolls are fun
Big blood pools - not so much
Harry 'detecting' more is good - more magic is good too

'Master of Magic' poster on the wall behind his couch... I would assume it's a poster from one of his dad's shows, since Harry-the-wizard doesn't advertise quite like that ;)

Bob went through the wall!

I'm trying to figure out if Bob not having a quick / good answer is supposed to show that Harry isn't dependent on him or that Bob's just slow w/ the memory recall under pressure.

Is Harry going to be more well-versed in the occult and magic-y things of other locales than he is in the books? (In the books, he admits to knowing mostly about the euro-centric stuff and not-so-much about Native American things and the like... I think.) Though he didn't display more than 'hey, I know who Anubis is', so maybe not so much more knowledge.

(( Yes - ramble-me. Until I watch it again.))

All-in-all, I liked the episode. We're getting a better feel of the Murphy - Harry dynamic, as long as they don't shove them into a romantic relationship, I'll be just peachy.

** I almost forgot... Harry got stabbed in the arse! That is classic Harry stuff!

Ok, I'll start with I enjoyed this episode but once it was over and I had turned off the tv, I felt a bit disappointed. And then I realized, if I had never read the books, I'd probably be loving this show and going all nuts about it. But, as far as the 'adaptation' goes, I think they took too much out of the attitudes and relationships that made the books so good. Here are some ferinstances:

1. Harry and Murphy, not too bad as far as the banter back and forth and her giving him a hard time and such - but in the books there are no sexual innuendoes (sp?).
2. Bob and Harry, again, this one got better (the first episode aired seemed to just have it all wrong) but Bob is Harry's first research tool, he knows gobs of stuff and usually recalls it all right away. He may get snarky about giving up the info but it is always there at his beck and call.
3. Harry and the ladies - once again, there is mention of Harry being a 'ladies man' when he really should be quite the opposite. He's an oddity who does strange things and lives strangely - never very conducive to romance.

Anyway, as I said, without having read the books, I like this series. So, I'm going to try and divorce the books from the tv show for the next show (two weeks?!) and see if I like it even better.

*Oh, and what is with the spaghetti?? Sheesh. These are the moments when they need to integrate Mister. He's a good 'in between' scene. Of course I'm sure they won't, but I'm ever hopeful. You can't go wrong with a beautiful black cat. I'll even loan them mine if they need one!

Mister's coming - he's been cast! :)

The potential Harry/Murphy stuff scares me. I truly hope that they DO NOT take that path. I like the 'tension' between the two in the books and hope they keep that feel in the show.

more later - break's over...

do they have a real cat as big as Mister?

Despite any negative comments I may have made, I'm excited about the show. The actor playing Harry looks to be able to carry it off (even though I still think he's too old, but hey--). And the Sci-Fi Channel seems to be dolloping some appropriate talent on it.

Sci-Fi Channel is so weird--their made for TV series are so GOOD; and they're made for TV movies are so BAD! I'm watching the Gryphon right now --- and I'm rooting for Big Bird.

Yeah - SciFi's very strange.

And Robert Wolfe (exec producer) has said that they've made changes to the show - Harry's older, it's a little more serious and they're down-playing the magic a little - on top of the cosmetic things that have been mentioned, but the 'flavor' is still there. Which is totally awesome!

I'm not sure 'who' is playing Mister - all I know is that he's been cast. ;)

tonight's ep is a rerun! Only two eps and then a rerun? Boo!

Tonight's ep was a repeat b/c of the Super Bowl.

We get a new one next week.

"The show USA Today calls, 'magical'!"

Uh, yeah . . . that's kind of the premise.

You know, I didn't even consider the fact that both episodes have been about body-switching, they were so completely different. This one was much darker, and I also thought it was stronger.

I don't see the Harry/Murphy stuff you mentioned. She still seems as p***ed off with Harry as she has most of the episode. At the end she has just lost a few hours of her life, she knows Harry is lying to her about what happened, and she is a detective. She is going to try any means to find out what happened. When she realises he isn't going to tell her, she just asked him to promise not to lie again.

I'll have to watch again, b/c I think the sexual innuendo part is earlier in the ep - don't recall. I just remember people mentioning it A LOT and it drives me bonkers.

So far, aside from Harry's stupid drumstick-wanna-be-a-blasting-rod, the undertones of a Harry/Murphy ship is the only thing that truly bothers me. Everything else - I'm good on. ;)
