The 200th episode of Stargate SG-1

Mitchell eagerly awaits the next off-world mission, which will be the 200th trip through the Stargate. However, Martin Lloyd returns and seeks help with his movie script. The Pentagon orders the SG-1 team to assist because the decision makers believe a film about intergalactic wormhole travel will provide a good cover story for the Stargate program.

True to Stargate tradition - the landmark episode was fun!

I thought this was actually better than "Wormhole Xtreme", but I always love it when the show pokes ridiculous fun at itself.

Despite the fact that the satelite went wack-o in the middle and I'll have to wait for the re-air to catch the piece I missed - it was funny.

I loved the puppets - the general wanting the gate to spin b/c 'it's so much cooler than not spinning', and Daniel scribbling on the board and it being all squiggly!

The ep really was a lot of fun (the re-air is playing on the tv in the other room just now) - and they needed a 'twist' - so there's suddenly General O'Neill! YAY!!!

So much fun! So well put together and *waves* hello to Mr. Martin Wood there at the end! You show up in all of these! Martin's a NUT - no, really - he's a total goofball!

Episode # 200

Just watched episode 200. I loved it, and I actually pretty much hate stargate sg-1. I love stargate atlantis though--how wierd is that. Anyways, the team was helping a writer make a movie about stargate so that people would not believe stargate existed--media coverup (remind anyone of a few other plots) anyways, pretty funny, I laughed. And seeing the team--jack oneil--as puppets made the hour worth it. I also laughed uproarously at the farscape references. Well done, I say. Very well done.

It's odd to see that someone actually likes Atlantis over SG-1, since usually it's the other way around. I love both myself, which I guess makes me somewhat rare.

The farscape reference was good, but I also loved all the other references to things from star trek to the wizard of oz. I really wish they'd do a zombie episode though, that little bit was awesome.

Also, I can't help but wonder about that little part about "Wormhole X-treme" (the mockery of the stargate series on the show itself) getting reissued. Was it some kind of cryptic hint about another Stargate movie, somewhere in the future?

I would think that is a possibility, maybe not as a theater release, but probably as a sci-fi channel made for tv movie. It would only work if good old macguyver was in the movie.

I think I know why I like Atlantis better. When I watch TV, I want to be entertained. I want to not THINK about it. I watch the History and Science channels if I want to THINK. SG-1 has so much subtle (and not so subtle) political and religious agendas, its almost impossible for me to get into it without thinking about it. Plus, they lost me with the whole Ascended beings thing. Anyways, Atlantis is sooo much easier to watch. "Bad guy does something. We do something back. Maybe we did the wrong thing. Lets do this instead. Conclusion. We win." LOL. SG-1 just has so much more going on than Atlantis does, its hard to follow what is going on when. I have been watching it more just because I freaking LOOOOOOOOOOOVE John Chrighton, and even though its not really John, I just pretend like it is. Heck, it looks like him. AND no, Im not a big fan of the actor. I mean I love the Crighton character.

Anyways, that was a lot of typing and didn't really stick to the point, but I've had a LOOOOOOOOOTTTT of coffee and am in overdrive right now so you will just have to deal.

That extra thought and depth is exactly why I like SG-1 better. It's fun hearing things like Sam spewing out techno-babble, because so much of what she says is based on the actual concepts of topics such as theoretical physics, which I just love. The Ori are kind of boring me as far as bad guys are concerned, though. Making them super-unstoppable only means that some ludicrious and borderline stupid plot shaping will be required to bring them down.

Aside from McKay and his multitude of idiosyncrasies, none of the Atlantis crew has really grown on me much, although I do prefer Weir over Landry.

Now I'll talk episode again.

SG-1 in general - part of the issues with the Goa'uld was that the writers kept making them almost TOO easy to beat. Even Anubis was almost too easy - there was always some nearly deus ex machina machine or tech that could wipe out Anubis. Granted, they had to team up with one of the other goa'uld to make the machine work, but still...

I don't know enough about the Ori to comment on them - but the Supergate is cool!

I did like this episode though - probably more b/c they were just making fun of themselves - which is one of the reasons that I still like SG-1 - it never quite takes itself too seriously.

The problem I have with SG-1 is that for the best few seasons it's been them trying to find a weapon to defeat the latest threat (replicators + Anubis, it's now the Ori). That said, with the Ori, it seems that they've got much more scope to explore the Ancients (Lanteans), their ascended form, and a few more things besides.

Possibly - I kind of fell-out in S8 and just recently caught up through the end of S8. I don't think I saw more than 3 eps of S9, so I'm a bit lost on the whole Ori bit.

But I was bored watching the stuff with Anubis. I love David Palfy (tho he may not have been the later Anubis), but the character was kind of boring and flat and the 'defeat' didn't seem all that 'big'. Not like taking out the Replicators did - which was suspenseful and interesting.

So - the fun 'jaunt' for ep 200 was a lot of fun and very refreshing.

Series or movies? Series - sure - entirely possible - both filmed in Vancouver - they share several guest stars too.

I'm trying to remember who some of the HL directors were - but I'm drawing a blank. (I'm a bad fan, I know )

I enjoy every bit of the episode, it was good fun. I have a blast with the Farscape bit but all were great. And it was good to see O'Neill back. Definitely a great episode.

THe episode was pleasantly silly, but it was JUST FLUFF. NOthing happened. Now if any of that-- the mountain blowing up, the wedding, or even a trip to Oz had happened, that would've excited me a lot more. Even O'Neill's appearance was dull, since he didn't do anything. Or even make good jokes.

I really thought SG-1 went downhill last Season while I was impressed by Atlantis. This Season Atlantis started bad and got better, while SG-1 has got progressively worse. But I did like this one, they always pull out all the stops for these, and even though I didn't expect to, I admit to laughing.

The Wizard of Oz, Thunderbirds, Farscape, and Star Trek spoofs were all excellent, and the way they kept saying the auidence will never believe that when referencing things that had actually occurred.

Probably would have been funnier, and the appearance of Jack more of a surprise, if Sky One had not trailed this so heavily all week.

One of the lines at the end was that the actor was in seven seasons, well eight, but he pretty much telephoned that in. At least they can laugh at themselves. We know they read what we write because most of our criticisms were played back as jokes in this episode.

I loved this episode! Laughed virtually the whole way through, will have to watch it again to get any of the in-jokes that I missed.

The Wizard of Oz, Thunderbirds, Farscape, and Star Trek spoofs were all excellent, and the way they kept saying the auidence will never believe that when referencing things that had actually occurred.

Self-parody, genre parody, nothing was safe! The whole Star Wars Ewok/Furlings thing was pretty amusing. And the friendly ripping of Farscape when Marty says he has no idea what it is.
Thought the interviews at the end with the Wormhole X-Treme 'cast' were brilliant.

I think that my overall opinion of the episode can be summed up by one word - inspired!

Someone however texted into Teletext here in the UK and said, and I quote,
"Just watched the 200th episode of Stargate SG-1. That's 56 minutes of my life I want back!"

I thought the 200th episode was Brilliant!! The cast had a laugh poking fun at themselves and instead of taking the party line and boasting about their longevity and the milestone, they decided to have as much fun as possible without actually doing anything.
All the references to past shows was a great concept and the Farscape reference was a brilliant idea - so didn't see that coming.
I think they decided to just make a pointless (not really) commerative episode because they've been around so long and reached so many milestones and sacheived so much already, that this one is just one of the many. Couple that with the fact that this may be the final season ever and the 200th episode was jsut the writers and cast enjoying themselves.
I loved it!!

It was very good but it didn't turn out to be the hysterical fun-fest I thought it was going to be at the start.

The Thunderbirds parody was hilarious, as was the Star Trek one. But the best was the Farscape parody. That was simply superb and made the episode!
