Gemmell Movie?

what about Kevin Sorbo as Hogun. He may be a little tall, but still... as for Rek.... Still no idea.

As I recall, David recieved a number of offers from production studios regarding the filming of Legend. However, the studio wanted the rights to the characters, so David refused.

Take a look at Brian Thompson from the remake of Jason and the Argonauts

Do a quick image search on google for Brian Thompson hercules and you should get a suitable picture

Druss would have to be the tallest actor in the movie so that you could convey that 'larger than life' filling, regardless of how big people picture him in the books. He's tall there too. But another good movie would be Waylander with what's his face, Aragorn, from LOTR. Viggo Mortenson. A good Jon Shannow might be Russel Crowe.

not so blaine druss is not tall, he not short either i think he would stand about 5'10"ish but be so broad in the shoulder he appears larger than others.

thats how i see him as well maybe a little shorter but broad as possible

'Hero in the shadows' definitely!!! (it's perfectly doable as a stand alone)
waylander-Russel Crowe
kysumu-Donnie yen/jet li
yu yu liang-I wouldn't know
keeva taliana-any suggestions?

jackie chan would be a good yu yu but jet li has played comedic parts before too. he could do either one. assuming he would do another action movie.

my opinion on him is a little biased because i've met him and he was a first class ******. i'd hate to have him anywhere near our theoretical Legend movie!

how old do you guys reckon Rek and Virae were?

Colin Farrell may be good as Rek - Druss, was he not quite old at this point? Someone not so young but still well built then.

White Wolf would be a cool movie with Christian Bale as Skilgannon. But then you have the Druss problem again. lol what about Matthew Mconaghey he was big in reign of fire lol.

I agree with other members on most points, most book to movie conversions don't stay faithful to the books,(even the leviathan-lord of the rings, slipped a bit),i also think that LOTR,has filled most studios ration of sword and scorcery movies, and finally, while there have been some excellent ideas for actors to play some of the great gemell characters, there is not one single actor who could play the immortal druss, several squished into one maybe,i speak of sean connery with a bit of brian blessed for the voice,as for face, again brian blessed has a great face for the captain of the axe,but body?no one has the mature age and the matching body to do justice to the big man.I couldn't bare to see less than perfect rendition to this giant among fantasy characters,i mean has anyone read Battlefield Earth, then watched the film, criminal to say the least.I think unless a fitting screenplay, remaining loyal to DG,with the right actors for the parts is made, nothing less is acceptable, and they should be left as books.Only then would we have a fitting tribute to the great writer we all obviously worship.

Just a quick note, many people seem stuck as to an actor to play 'Bowman',has anyone considered Cary Elwes as seen in 'The Princess Bride',he seems to fit the bill for me,what do you others think?.

Hello again,i've found druss!!.For anyone with sky tv,watch a programme called 'American Chopper',on Discovery channel, the father,Paul Teutul sr.He is the right height, build, age,he even has a fairly deep voice, the only problem is his New York accent, and the fact he's not actually an actor, just a real guy in a fly-on-the-wall series, but i'm sure that could be fixed, look at all the stars which came from non-acting backgrounds,Arnold, the rock,Hulk Hogan,Steven Segal, and loads more. This guy could pull it off with the right support, probably never happen, but if they're ever casting,he's the man for the part.

Knights of Dark Renown would be interesting... A different take on vampires, almost a cross between LOTR and Underworld... could be good.

Legend would be excellent, but I've seen enough siege movies so would much prefer to see the story of Druss' life, first chronicles or Deathwalker.

Waylander would be excellent, Jackman or Clive Owen could play a mean lead.

Hell no. I mean Druss was a difficult character at times, but not this, never this.

Hi folks, sorry if my choice of person to play Druss isn't appreciated, but as yet i haven't heard any better sugestions for an actor, you,ve got to admit though,my giy does have the physical prescence to play the part.If anyone has a better suggestion,i'd love to hear it.

LEGEND – The original, the flawed, yet the best - I have thought this work of brilliance should have been made into a film years ago, when I first read Legend!! If it isn't obvious to all that have read it or maybe will after reading this, you clearly don't understand what the majority of film goers look for in a major motion picture, this has it all, violence, bloodshed, love, lost love, colorful characters, an exciting story of huge unmanageable odds overcome, deep characters with flaws that are painful to read that has you cheering them as they grow and understand each other, 2 major hero's from totally different backgrounds, lots of peripheral hero's, magic, myth, a rich new world yet not to different from our medieval past, an adversary of deadly proportions that you can sympathize with yet hate all at the same time, truly an all round masterpiece yet so simplistic you think, ( Why didn't I write this!) No one could have of course only David. To cap it all the perfect bitter sweet ending!! PERFECT. I picked the book up as a last resort as I was just heading on some holiday or other, I forget where but not what brought me to the holy grail of fantasy writing. It seemed a smaller less mature book than my usual fantasy novel, yet I was running late for my plane, so what the heck. I read the book twice during my hols plus managed to pick up lion of Macedon and sequel, whilst away, another great couple of books I was hooked, a Gemmell convert. This also introduced me to Alexander the Great, what a missed opportunity Oliver Stones' attempt was!! Legend the movie though with a big budget, far sighted and intuitive direction (Jackson, Cameron maybe) with true quality actors a few well known "stars" it wouldn't fail to be a smash, the book reads like an epic film of old as it stands, Spartacus, Ben Hur, El Cid or the more recent, Gladiator, Rings Trilogy!! The characters are flawed and likeable and Druss alone could become a better known an easily more identifiable character than Conan (poor films made little sense) It would hardly be a big risk for a film producer and with the mouth watering prospect of Druss prequels to boot, I see it as an obvious and exciting move.

I have championed this idea on other forums since the gut wrenching news that my favorite fantasy writer has moved onto the next world, R.I.P. David Gemmell a true Great, amazing and engaging all your books sit proudly on my shelves and I await the finale to the troy trilogy with reverence and anticipation.

A FILM IS THE PERFECT HOMAGE TO A BRILLIANT IMAGINATION. THOUSANDS AGREE!!

In order to keep the british heart of Legend, I think the cast should be:
Druss: Ray Winstone
Rek: Clive Owen
Virae: Keira Knightly
Orrin: Sean Bean
Hogun: Ewan McGregor
Bowman: Ralf Little (don't ask why, I think he'd be good)
Mendas: Will Mellor
