(Found) Looking for an 80s/90s book

So can't remember too much but basics are:

Humans are created from another race for an aliens races wars.

Some humans are nearly fully aliens and the warlike aliens kill these so they can't fully transform.

Some do transform and contact the galactic society to convene a panel to review the issue.

Oh and dinosaurs were their first attempt.


It was a long time ago and I'm not sure I hit the more subtle points as I was about 12 lol

1982 so thinking about it it must be 80s or 80s sci-fi lol

I can't believe there's another book so close. After the dinosaurs fail, the aliens kidnap a dozen people from an advanced race and use their DNA to upgrade humans. Most people have it imprinted, which makes them "Prints". One male (the protagonist) and one female have the pure DNA, (Strains)and metamorphosise into the original forms of the kidnapped race. They meet with a member of the galactic council to bring the aliens to justice. Are you sure it's not your book?
