Dr Strange 2 (2022)

Not sure what to make of this - there doesn't seem to be much story presented, just lots of special effect montages:
Think you could cut'n'paste this into most trailers for SFF films these days. But I guess it's what the target market go for.

Started watching this last night (I have to split films into 3 sessions) but so far not enjoing it, though my wife is:

1. This isn't s sequel to Dr Strange - it's a sequel to the WandaVision TV series. Although they summarize things (repeatedly, because apparently there's so much to cover) I'm constantly left feeling that I'm missing out on what story there actually is.

2. Most of the first hour appears to be one big CGI-sequence after another.

3. There's a lot of new stuff about Dr Strange - like his Nepalese temple and a minotaur guy - that goes completely unremarked or explained, which I find ... strange.

Overall, so far, this film is lacking an awful lot of context, even for someone who watched the original Dr Strange film. It also seems a lot more comic-book cheesy than other Marvels I've watched. Benedict Cumberbatch must have been cringing through a lot of his lines.

Middle section was better. More stakes and exploration of an alternative universe made this more interesting - helped by some nice cameos.

Story wise , it sounds like this film is a jumbled mess.

Third part was okay, but overall I think doctor Strange 2 is something of a B movie with a big special-effects budget,

It's not a mess so much as too reliant on having watched Wandavision for the story, and long montages of special effects where there is none.

I think this is part of the problem with the Marvel Cinematic Universe at the moment. At the End of Phase 4 Disney just ramped up production - multiple TV series and all of them having some sort of connection to the main films, ends up meaning if you haven't seen one of the series then you miss some much needed context.

When Marvel was at its peak (I would argue its Glory Days are gone and the MCU is now in managed decline) it used to be fun to watch the end credits for the Easter Eggs and the teasers, now you have to watch entire seasons.

Another big problem is the VFX teams are spread so thin that some of the VFX is actually terrible.

I took my daughter to the cinema to see DR Strange 2 and I was bored throughout most of it, despite enjoying Dr Strange 1. I think this film should have been given more Wanda and made into a Wanda film instead of what we got - and that is completely ignoring the many plot holes.
