Jodorowsky's Dune book up for auction with art from Chris Foss, Moebius and Giger

I think Gaultier made the outfits for The Fifth Element, which did look a bit campy. I wonder if fashion designers might lean a bit too far towards the wacky end of things, but it would probably depend on the individual.

I always remember laughing at Aliens when all they did for fashion was to turn the collars up on the execs suits.

If you look at what's happened to men's suits since 1979 -- basically, a sequence of pathetic little tinkerings with lapel width etc, which then get reversed a few years later -- that seems overly futuristic now.

JPG has a sense of humour, obvious if you watched Eurotrash back in the day. Fifth Element is quite a funny film, and I guess JPG was getting into the spirit of it. I think there is also a distinctive French take on SF which is more whimsical than most Anglophone SF.
