March Reading Thread

I'm struggling to find anything I really want to read. Got a long long list but nothing is catching my eye.

Will probably just do a reread of something I've enjoyed before.
 
A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. It's not sci-fi or fantasy, but I've heard good things about it.
 
The Sinister Mystery of the Mesmerizing Girl by Theodora Goss.

Third in a trilogy after The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter and European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman. When I've had time/energy to read, this moves along at a gallop. So far, plotting feels smoother than the second volume, the inclusion of so many women from the works of 19th century fantastic fiction has been a lot of fun.

Still reading The Complete Stories and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe. So far I've read "The Murders at the Rue Morgue," "The Mystery of Marie Roget," "The Purloined Letter," "The Black Cat," "The Gold Bug," "The Descent into the Maelstrom," "Ligeia," and "The Tell-Tale Heart." In other words, I've barely made a dent in it, but I'm enjoying it quite a lot (even the stories I've read multiple times before).
 
Current reading includes Clinton Heylin's Bob Dylan: Behind the Shades (2011), Dasent's Popular Tales from the Norse, a Victoria-era translation of Asbjornsen and Moe, and N. T. Wright's The Resurrection of the Son of God. I've stalled on Morris's The Well at the World's End, but I expect to renew my reading of that one. Any day I should be getting a fat book of Cornell Woolrich stories on interlibrary loan.

Just finished James L. Cambias' Arkad's World. Long review short: I enjoyed the great virtues of this somewhat Vancian planetary romance for most of the book but it went too long and had a weak ending for me, though it may appeal to some.

After reading over a hundred and fifty pages, I gave up it was like walking through treacle.

I have started my second book group choice, The Volunteer, by Jack Fairweather. The true story of the resistance hero who infiltrated Auschwitz.
 
Finished To Green Angel Tower, the final volume fo the Tad Williams Memory, Sorrow & Thorn trilogy. I already miss it. This might have been the most fun I've had reading a series in 20 years... it seemed to have everything, and while criticisms of its pace are certainly justified, I've not been so immersed in a world in a very long time. It's everything I wanted Jordan and GRRM to be and weren't.

While I let my thoughts about it settle, I'm changing gears with a book I've seen recommended around here, The Spy and the Traitor by Ben MacIntyre. Not my usual fare, but intriguing and fun.

I can heartily recommend it. I don't read a great deal and it usually takes me a while to finish a book, but this one I could hardly put down. The story is grippingly told but at the climax I couldn't stop laughing! It's hard to believe it's true.

That series has been waiting on my shelf for a while. Really looking forward to it. I'm still working on The Long Price Quartet. I think it is liked by people who like MST. Pretty sure. I started getting really interested about 75 pages in. Abraham also wrote The Dagger and the Coin series. I'd be interested in seeing votes on which is better from people who read both Dagger and Long Price.
 
Kirill Klevanski Dark wizard's case is a book for the fans of steve mchugh. i enjoyed it immensely

Williams does have some great world-building in the series, I think the Sithi are one of the most convincingly non-human fantasy races I've read about.
