DISCUSSION THREAD -- February 2020 -- 75-Word Writing Challenge

Nothing wrong with theme/genre.
@dannymcg , @Karn's Return, its called a challenge for a reason; to challenge and take you out of your comfort zone.
I'll likely struggle this month, that's down to my own shortcomings, not the challenge.
Nixie’s right.

From my own personal experience of the 75 I distinctly remember, on more than one occasion, reading a theme / genre for the first time and thinking ‘oh no, what on Earth am I going to do with that?’, only to discover that there is a certain amount of pleasure in overcoming adversity (for want of a better word).

Also, on occasion, when not a single idea has occurred to me the very act of sitting down and writing starts the ideas flowing.

I agree there's nothing wrong with the choice. Just that it is so far out of my comfort zone it would be like sunbathing on Pluto.

I've surprised myself and written one.
Then I did an initial word count....77....how close is that!
Look at you go! One of the ‘Nay Sayers’ has the first entry up.
If it is any consolation, the 100 Word Anon Challenge in Workshop (which is coming up this week) will be mush less restrictve. @Luiglin and @Karn's Return , maybe we’ll see you there.

I don't even know what my comfort zone is yet. Nothing comes to my mind. I'm afraid that anything I try will sound like a smug piece from a teenage fanfic collection. In this context, one comfort zone is a big, hairy barbarian with strong arms... err... going unfashionably traditional I guess. But what about the memento part? Oh my, I am so glad this is a family-friendly forum. I'm having flashbacks from the 90s Star Trek ("Q" anyone? Picard?) and early 2000s LotR era fanfic waves right now.

Well this is either creepy or coincidental, but this popped up in the sidebar on YouTube as a 'Recommended for you' video
Creepy, yes, like a stranger that siddles up beside you in the street and asks if you want to borrow a video from their extensive collection... thing is, on the web, you can't always be sure of what street you're standing on.

So, the chivalric code was no more a set of anachronistic/poetical guidelines... huh.

Who'd 'ave thought it!

But then, you gotta aspire to something...

Challenge for a reason, indeed. But yes, I'm a bit...how would I put it in a family-friendly way? A bit...opinionated, I suppose, when it comes to romance. I'm sure I could come up with something...but do I even want to, is the question.

Sometimes a big, hairy Barbarian with strong arms just needs a big hug. <sob>

And what of us who are just simply big? :(

I'm not strong at all for a man my size, but at least I'm not hairy...nor am I barbarian, so I suppose that might count in my favor...in some ways...perhaps...maybe...

...

Don't look at me like that. Okay, so it might count against me considering the atmosphere of the forum. But still! A man can dream! ...even if that's ALL one can do...

I'm trying to think of something elementary, simple. So all I can think of traditional norms.

My first reaction when seeing this month theme was one of rebellion and I decided not to participate. Reading through the comments in this thread change my mind and I wrote my entry in a few minutes (length fixing for the next hour). I do not expect anyone to even like it (i got used to that lately), but hey, it was fun to rebel :)
