Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)

I'm looking forward to seeing this as I thing that James Cameron is a great story teller.

I still haven't seen the last Terminator movie.

Ive seen the trailer several times , the first time , It didn't; impress. but you what ? This one has grown on me. I think this Terminator sequel ia going to be quite good !(y)

According to Wikipedia James Cameron was involved in the story, which I assume means that he contributed only very general ideas, early in the process. He is in the middle of managing the entire Avatar universe at the moment, and hasn't been too deeply involved in the terminator franchises last few projects.
Because of this I'm skeptical, as i wasn't a fan of the last film, but I'll see what early reviewers say. A full reboot would have made more sense to me, since the timeline is getting convoluted now.

I wish I wasn't so cynical, but where will the story finally end? Who is going to protect Sarah Connor's parents? Grandparents? Great Grandparents? How far back in time can the time machines send Terminators? Why don't they attack humanity at a much earlier date?

Because they still need humanity to create them, so no use wiping us out while we were still cave men...

I seem to be in the minority, but this looks terrible.

Terminator: Black Death set in the 14th century and featuring nanobots riding rats?

Those questions have earned you a time out, mister! Just take this time to think about what you have proposed. A time travel migraine will serve as your punishment. :D

They could go back a 150 000 years or so and invent themselves.

Terminator: 100 Million Years BC

I was thinking along those lines but Culhwch, I think, has a valid point...

Could they go back with a whole Terminator manufacturing plant? Or would the timeline change and they just be wiped out like the fading family photograph in 'Back to the Future'?

I think what we need here are some Terminator universe time travel rules and restrictions - nothing bigger than x can travel - no one or no thing can travel back more than x number of years. This would satisfy me. And cure my migraine.

Temporal Mechanics :devilish:

It is interesting how the John Connor character is deconstructed with each movie (based on rumors, this film continues the pattern).

In Terminator 1, John Connor is savior of the future-but only if his mother lives.
In Terminator 2, he is savior of the future, but he needs a terminator dad to inspire him.
In Terminator 3, he is savior of the future, but only if a terminator who kills him eventually can be his life coach along with a woman who replaces his mother as adviser
In Terminator 4, he is savior of the future, but only if he gets a terminator's heart.
In Terminator 5, he is savior of the future, but then becomes Skynet's accomplice.
