DISCUSSION THREAD- December 2018- 75 Word Writing Challenge :

Betty the Elf watched the big guy. He was obviously a little distressed, the way he was slugging back the brandy – not the cheap stuff either – was a little worrying. It was bad enough the amount he drunk when he was doing his rounds. He came back all handsy and ready for the rolling pin from Mrs Claus, but starting this early… he was even starting to get paranoid about the reindeer of all things.

“Calliopenjo – Burberry! On Burberry! It has a ring don’t you think, Betty. Replace that glowing nose backstabber, eh? It’s a great idea, a new legend, perhaps a new song… we all have to start somewhere!”

“Luiglin – Now we have what, Reindeer who don’t know where they are and have to stop and ask directions? I’d have said preposterous, only it’s that red nosed blunder, so I’m not surprised, probably trying to get himself added to a classic he is not the hero of.”

“Stevietee – AMAZON! Freaking AMAZON!”

Oh, someone’s gone and done it now, thought Betty, Rudolph is one thing but daring to mention ‘them’ Oh dear.
“Stop hiding over there Betty, fill my glass. I need cheer. Ho ho oh.”

“Daysman – Hurmph, what’s this I see now, some other person trying to knock me off.. No, no I think this is someone doing something nice. Well, I must say I AM surprised. Trying to instil a bit of magic and wonder back into the proceedings, and no mention of the scarlet nosed backstabber.”

“Matteo – Whut? Oh he’s back. Can’t leave the little git alone can they. Give me my blasted Brandy… no, no screw the glass, just the bottle. What’s this anyway? Is it meant to be funny? Clause-alitiy drive I don’t get it. Ho. Oh. Hic.”

“D A Xiaolin Spires – He cut the ropes! He cut the ropes I tell you. At least those two cuddly cuties landed somewhere better than some of the realities I’ve seen. Looks a bit dark and dreary though. Betty what do you think?”

To be honest Betty did not know what to think. But what she knew was that things could deteriorate if some of the alternate visions did not improve. They could be heading to something worse than the Christmas meltdown of 1704. AT least he hadn’t started on the Whiskey yet.

@johnnyjet .... Gregor the Red-Eyed Reindeer (or, The Transformation) .... Johnny finally fleshes out the myth and now we know why that nose was Red!

@Bob Senior .... ONE STEP AHEAD .... Bob reminds us never to try to pull a fast one on Santa, even the reindeer can't pull that one off.

@Vince W .... Founder of the Feast .... Vince points us to a twisted bird and a twisted feast.

@chrispenycate .... Raid .... Chris gathers us around the campfire and recites the tale of terrible terror and it's terrific toll to open the eyes of travelers and tourists.

Thank you Parson and Victoria - and nixie, I won't require slapping for this one - I quite like it, even if it did want to be longer.

A lot longer.

@fishii .... First Christmas In A New Home .... fishii let's us consider how traditions change as time and location change, but the need to eat stays the same.

Fishii it's been a while since I've seen you post, and it's been a long while since you did a 75. Did you ever do a 75 before? Interesting story!

@Dan Jones .... Roofies .... Dan brings us to the intersection of reindeer, rain dear, OH DEAR! and dear pie.

Can't say I actually remember, but I probably haven't. I used to be really intimidated by the idea of trying to limit myself to such a small number of words while actually getting some point across.

You did march 2012 (The Uncanny, Magical Realism) (Wolf's run) and
May 2013 (Legacy, Science Fiction or Fantasy) A Beary Great Love, gaining one vote (some people here don't change, do we?:D)

I'm probably being over-cautious here, but can others please confirm that "smartphone" is one word only, not two.
Many thanks!

@scarpelius .... Storm over the New Iron Curtain .... Scar draws into a place where the war machine is able to hold back the magic reindeer.

Parson sees the last four posts were his .... wonders if everyone has gone to sleep for a week or if something major happened he did not hear about. ..... Anyway:

@Hugh .... Even in Siberia..... Hugh merges the mystical with the inane and leaves us all sputtering.

Well! I joined just over a month ago to submit for November's 85 Word Challenge, and now here we are, with December's 75.

The loss of ten words was hard! The theme, though, I took to much easier. I tried to really nail description this time, since last month I was fairly dialogue heavy.
