I live on a very limited income (basically, SSI). About a year ago,I reluctantly closed my Kindle Unlimited subscription, to be able to pay for something else.

So yesterday, I'm on Amazon, checking out one of my Twitter follower's books. They don't give me a price - or the option - to buy the Kindle version. Instead, they offer a button I "can" press to read on KU.

Is this yet another glitch for Amazon? Is their matrix so large they can no longer keep anything straight?

Or, did I idiotically pass up a one-time freebie offer?

I'm not a Kindle Umlimited member, but it still lists the option with relevant ebooks. In fact KU is the only option shown in the main section of the screen (where the different versions are shown, e.g. paperback) but if I click on it, nothing happens. To buy a Kindle version I would have to go to the less obvious bit on the right hand side.

Not sure if that helps at all.

Normally, I get both the purchase option and the KU option. This was the first time I was only given the KU option.

Hmm, I think they've changed it. You're right, you used to get all options together. Now the "buy for Kindle" option is hived off to one side.

It's wearying how stupid and easily influenced they think we are. They think that because KU is the only ebook option easily visible, that we'll join KU just to save ourselves the trouble of moving the cursor to a slightly different part of the screen? Or do they think that only by making KU the only easily visible option will be become aware of it and its features, because our brains have somehow managed to blank it out for the past five years? I'd love to have been at the boardroom meeting where this was decided, so I could throw doughnuts at them until they were all unconscious.

Not my fault, honest.

I’m not a KU subscriber and on my phone I only see a buy now for kindle.

I've now ran into 3 books I can't buy the Kindle version. I'm only allowed to read on Kindle Unlimited - which I don't subscribe to atm.

Most books seem to be fine, though.
