I have more books than I think I can ever read. And yet - I must have more books.

I struggle to resist 99p ebook sales. I'm subscribed to Amazon's Kindle Daily Deals. I have long wishlists that I check more or less every day to see if any have come on offer.

I must have more books.

I have a lot of unread books on my shelves, all of which I want to read. I just need time to read them.

Yet there are also so many other books out there I really want to read, too.

I've realized I'm interested in lots of things, and once a subject has my attention I seriously indulge in it by buying as many books as I can - and where budget allows.

A lot of my unread books are on medieval living history, and WWII Germany - two big interests. But now I'm finding myself drawn more to both Roman Britain and Neolithic Europe. Oh, and Bronze Age Turkey.

Perhaps luckily, academic books are so expensive that I cannot buy many of these. But that won't stop me from adding more books about the subject to my Amazon wishlist.

Oh, I forgot - I might have the option to study medieval Scottish history, so of course I want to read up about that first. After my degree I might do a masters in archaeology which happens to cover the Norse, so I'm also adding books about that subject.

I don't have one wish list at Amazon - I have all many: Priority Books, Novels, WWII, Ancient History, Roman Britain, Scottish History, and of course my normal Wish List. I might have to create some more soon.

So, I figure I'm addicted to books and reading and learning. But I don't think that's really a problem. :)

Anyone else here also the same? :D

[NOTE! That's a stock image above - my book shelves don't look anywhere near as impressive!]

My printed TBR pile is actually in 4 storage boxes in my office since I don't have room for more bookshelves. Probably 300 of them in there.

And about 300 more TBR on my tablet...

My name is Bluestocking and I'm a book addict.

Addiction confirmed. I pre-order books, then rush home when its delivered only to stack them on the shelf with the rest to be read later.

@Venusian Broon How am I supposed to browse your bedside library with so many books facing the wrong way??

Addicted to reading books, yes. But I seem to be breaking free of an addiction to buying them. My retirement kitty had her spaying on Monday two weeks ago, and the vet had the chance to examine her injured eye. On the following Tuesday we took her up to the city where the vet is again, to have the eye looked at again, since there was blood. On Wednesday the eye was removed. Tess has done very well throughout all this, but with a vet bill around $1,500, I felt it would be appropriate to get serious about cutting back on book buying -- which I've meant to do anyway for a long time.

So Many Books, but Limited Reading Time and Lifespan

I'm enjoying reading books on hand. There were good reasons to buy many of these for reading or rereading.

Having said all that... I admit that :rolleyes:I'll probably order a book today.

This is a good and bad thing.

Good in that it makes me forget that I've got a book, therefore when I go to pick the next one to read, as I go through a pile I can come across a delightful surprise.

Bad in that I then have to remember more or less what I've got there, when I'm getting more of them...

I definitely have a reading addiction. Perhaps not a purchasing addiction - 95% of the books I read are library books. However, my to be read list is around 3,000 titles long at this point and I continually add even as those I've read get removed. I'll never finish it. I'm not worried though, it will be an enjoyable journey!

I try not to have a TBR pile, my books are just jumbled up. I'm collecting whatever scifi turns up in Stornoway charity shops, and when I reach retirement age I'm going to read the whole lot of them in however long it takes.
I have a load of old classics too, for after that. Chaucer, Plato, Galileo, Aristotle, Plutarch, Boswell, and so on. And as next year is the end of this decade, I shall dedicate it to futurology, and have eight books ready for that. And lots of other stuff too. But I'm not addicted, no.

I am addicted to books, I don't add books to a wishlist because I don't have the willpower not to complete the purchase even if I can't afford said books.

I have a cupboard full of books, some read, some not, some I don't have any intention of ever reading. I've rescued books that don't appeal, I make resolutions to purge and take the ones I've no interest in too charity shops. I keep putting it off, I also have books all over the flat. I can't browse a book shop without purchasing, I've purchased books already owned.
I'd say I've a problem, a friend recently said "if you go missing, you'll be found under a mountain of books, do you really need them all?"

To be fair, there are worse addictions to have.

A gnome addiction, for example.

I am absolutely addicted to books. Bookshops, second hand shops, charity shops, yard sales, rummage sales, car boot sales, library sales. All are dangerous territories for me. I've even 'borrowed' books from friends and relatives that never seem to get returned. Every time I get even the smallest interest in something, books on that subject start appearing.

Any well adjusted, level headed individual should be a book addict. My TBR pile is always expanding, through a combination of gifts, purchases and ill-thought through offers of beta reads (jokes, all my betas are completely open hearted). Long may it continue.

I have a slight addiction to reading, but I don't buy physical books anymore. The Kindle saved me from buying books I would not read in future.
