Rain replaced Martin Balsam , it was a wise choice by Kubrick. It gave HAL an other worldly tone. It is amazing how quickly Kubrick and Rain worked on the HAL dialog , I think it was only a week. It was less than a week.
Rain did it again for 2010.
Alas Rain only gave a few interviews about 2001 and was reluctant to speak at length about it.
