I'm overcome with remorse. For the first time since I stayed doing the challenges I was unable to vote.

A big congratulations to mosaix - I would have voted for either you or PM, so not too much difference.

Now I'm off to walk through the city naked to cries of "SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!" and avoid rotten fruit and worse.

Thanks. I've been away too long, but I was pleasany surprised to see you posting entries again. Altbough you didn't get my vote, I always found your submissions to be enjoyable to read.

Perception of the reader is often far different from the intention of the writer. At least that's true in my experience.
There's a huge backstory that goes along with my snippet. I won't tell the long story, but in short, it goes something like this.
It centers around the oops, we have been a little hasty in our decision. We have to fix it. Otherwise, we'll have a catastrophe on our hands scenario.
In the meanwhile, I have a flash fiction piece to get back to. Otherwise, that character may be stuck in that scenario for a while. lol.

Apologies for missing the vote and failing to finish the whole set of reviews this month. Things have been a bit topsy turvy of late due to an unexpectedly early arrival. Fair to say I've had other things on my mind!

It sounds like either your in-laws arrived for a visit prematurely, or congratulations are in order for more than @mosaix! I hope your arrival was not so early that there are significant health concerns.

I also had a secret first attempt at this challenge (which may have been assassinated round the back of the bike sheds for being awful), but which I'll post below for giggles. It was set in a far future where New Zealand rules the world, and required knowledge of the Australian Emu wars to make any sense at all, so it was probably too silly to live:

“G’day general. In vernacular, the Kiwis are fanging it. We can’t match their network and our moonshot program has consumed the entire budget.”

“Stuff Britannia rule the waves, eh?”

“General?”

“Just another old island nation with an empire. Continue.”

“Well… the moonshot worked.”

“What?!”

“Yeah, nah, the way Steve seduced the emu queen is physically impossible. But after defeating us so many times the Emu Nation are on our side.”

“Then we attack New Zealand.”

Thank you! Three weeks early so nothing too terrible but suffice to say it didn't go exactly how we'd planned it. I was a little out of the loop for a while but things are looking better now.

Thank you! Three weeks early so nothing too terrible but suffice to say it didn't go exactly how we'd planned it. I was a little out of the loop for a while but things are looking better now.

We had to induce our second one a bit early; she was a couple weeks underweight, so they felt it safer to have her out than in. It wasn't a fun delivery, but she was healthy, hungry, and a gem of a baby. Now, she threatens the removal of my "best friend" status when I make her mad...

Glad to hear the latest addition to your family is doing well. I hope you have the opportunity to treasure this time.

Our second child, my wife's doctor tried to delay my the birth, because he thought it was too early. When I tried to point out their mathematical mistake, I was pooh-poohed, as though I was stupid. But I knew they'd started with the wrong month!

My wife insisted, and she had a C-section, giving birth to a supposedly 3-week early baby girl... at 7 pounds, 2 ounces.

Ha, sounds like my son -- they kept telling me I was measuring two weeks small, and I told them they could count from wherever they liked, but I was there when it happened. Sure enough, he was "two weeks late".
