What's everyone's take on the Wheel of Times series by Robert Jordan? Beautifully written, dragged out, incredible character development?

I'm currently in the middle of rereading the series (almost done with The Great Hunt) and just wondering everyone's opinion on the series.
 
I enjoy the wheel of time. I think it is a good series.
I finished the whole series.
I am rereading it now.
Currently at the dragon reborn.
 
I'm reading the series through for the first time now. The furthest I have ever gotten was reading parts of The Path of Daggers a book I just happen to be reading. The Eye of the World and The Great Hunt just happen to be my two shared favorite books from what I have read of the series--even though there are certain scenes in The Shadow Rising and Lord of Chaos that are pretty good. Right now I'm just powering through reading through this series, hoping that Robert Jordan--and by extension Brandon Sanderson--will recapture some of the magic I felt reading those two books. It seems a real shame what Robert Jordan did to his series, as I feel if the rest of the released books were modeled after those two it would be an incredible achievement and series.
 
I really liked The Eye of the World and somewhat enjoyed The Great Hunt, but I stopped at The Dragon Reborn as the narrative was painfully dragging out. I noticed that too much attention was devoted to the emo nature of the main protagonist and even style-wise it was beginning to get repetitive (specific actions and phrases associated with certain characters). The entire series is certainly impressive for its scope, but I cannot see myself reading all of the books :(.
 
I shall embark on this series soon. Its been on my radar for many years, and im curious to get to the brandon Sanderdon books.
Ill probably gave to stagger the books though, as in read something else in between each installment.

Imho, staggering the books is a good idea. While I truly enjoy WoT, it can get a little drawn out. That said, it is definitely worth your time!

P.S. I feel like the last 3 books (Sanderson) are as good as Jordan`s first 3.

Thars good, i thinkly very highly of Sandersons normal output anyway.
 
I read them and got to about book 10 or 11. Then after a gap of a few years I got books 12, 13 & 14 and thought "well... why not just start from the beginning again", so have read most of them twice. I thought it was an abslutely staggering achievement to create that world, it's history, it's people and the concept of "channeling" was a fresh take on the magic trope. I saw "the eye of the world" in a 2nd hand book shop as a child and thought to myself "I like that title, one day I will read that!!" and I eventually did and it became the benchmark of fantasy for me. In my opinion, there are parts of the story that meander a little, some storyklnie threads that seem to just disappear and I personally wasn't a massive fan of the way it ended, but as a story it was magnificent and it is crying out for a tv adaption. Visually, it would knock socks of the likes of GoT and the amount of material to pull on (including history, legend etc.) is mind blowing.

I've heard this being bounced around for about 10 years now, but I don't think anyone knew what to do with it. GoT showed the way - a multi-series drama. WoT would have the potential to be stunning in that format, particularly if someone works out a way to "show" channeling. They made the classic mistake with The Dark Tower of trying to make a film from 7 books. Should have been a series. Wasted.

Veering OT for a moment, anyone looking for a decent visual representation of The Dark Tower should check out the Marvel graphic novel series. Originally this just filled in a backstory gap in Wizard and Glass, but they're now doing the whole story from the beginning.

This is the closest it come (unless you count the unauthorized film that ran in Canada in the middle of the night. Once). Sony is in on it along with Amazon.

Even still I thinks it's 50/50 at best.
 
I am thrilled at the news, and even happier that it will be a series and not a movie adaptation.
 
After watching the first episode of Amazon's TV series of Wheel of Time, I'm interested enough to stop at the first hour and pick up the books instead. I had not taken the plunge before because of many reviews saying it was derivative and longwinded, and my tastes have changed a bit more towards grimdark lately. Having said that, I've always enjoyed epic fantasy and world building, so I'm hoping this will end up being something I'm going to enjoy. Then sometime in the future (after 14 books), I'll pick up the TV adaptation again with a sound base of how the author wanted the story told.
