Star Trek Discovery renewed for season 2

It looks like that season 2 is going be alot fun.

Yeah. To be honest first season was great fun and it really lit up minds and spirits of so many people. I'm glad CBS had balls to do this, because I was afraid a while ago that there will never going to be another ST series. Maybe this is what Roddenberry wanted, nevertheless, it is ours now and the producers are clearly taking huge steps forward in story wise. What's better the writers have so much information out now compared to what it was back in the magical eighties or nineties. There are kids now who this will be their first compelling ST experience. I hope it's enough to make them look into some old school stuff, beyond JJA's movies.

And Captain Pike in command of the Discovery. That was a nice touch.

They maneuvered the show so that it can have guest Captains. It's not like they where going to leave Saru in command.

He sneezed on that guy , hilarious.

It wasn't that. It was the standing alone in the lift and then blinking his eyes like a bird when the others came aboard. For a moment, he was an animal and then he was addressed as if he was a human. The exactly same chemistry as what there is with SW's Chewbacca and other people.

Before Discovery returns for its second season, CBS also revealed that it will release four "Short Treks" minisodes, which will be approximately 10 to 15 minutes long and will cover many of our favorite secondary characters.

Rainn Wilson will return to play the mischievous Harry Mudd in a short that he will also direct, and Aldis Hodge will star in another as Craft, a man who finds himself the only human on board a deserted ship. Additional episodes will include a deep dive into Saru's backstory as the first Kelpien to join Starfleet, plus Tilly's journey aboard the USS Discovery and her friendship with an unlikely partner. Intriguing.

"There is no shortage of compelling stories to tell in the Star Trek universe that inspire, entertain, and either challenge our preconceived ideas or affirm long-held beliefs, and we are excited to broaden the universe already with 'Short Treks,'" Kurtzman said in a statement.

"Each episode will deliver closed-ended stories while revealing clues about what's to come on in future 'Star Trek: Discovery' episodes," he added. "They'll also introduce audiences to new characters who may inhabit the larger world of Star Trek."

In addition, a couple of cast announcements were confirmed, including Rebecca Romijn as Number One — a character played by Majel Barrett in the pilot episode ("The Cage") in the original "Star Trek" — and the return of Cruz, who will reprise his role as the Discovery's chief medical officer, Hugh Culber … even though the character was controversially killed off in the first season.

The second season will also visit Saru's home world and continue to explore the Klingon storyline established in Season 1 surrounding L'Rell's ascendancy to the position of chancellor on the Klingon home world Qo'noS.

There was no mention of Section 31, so we don't know yet if that clandestine arm of Starfleet is involved with the aforementioned cosmic threat, despite the tease of "Section 31 Bridge Blueprints" back in April.

You do realize that that will not make season 2 come any faster. ;)

To be honest, I'm glad that it's coming at January and not with the autumn season. It will also be very interesting, where AMZ places The Expanse. They must know that they are against one of the American TV titans and CBS just expanded their catalogue.

Is the competition going to be a good thing?

Does it matter? Discovery is not taking up a time slot.

And competition usually inspires artists, including writers and actors. :)

"Star Trek: Discovery" has added actor Ethan Peck as the Enterprise's half-Vulcan crewmember Mr. Spock.

Peck will appear in the role for Discovery's second season. The grandson of famed actor Gregory Peck, Ethan Peck is best known for his roles in "Passport to Paris," "That '70s Show," "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," "10 Things I Hate About You," "In Time," "Madam Secretary" and "The Curse of Sleeping Beauty."

"Through 52 years of television and film, a parallel universe and a mirror universe, Mr. Spock remains the only member of the original bridge crew to span every era of Star Trek," Discovery executive producer Alex Kurtzman said in a statement.

"The great Leonard Nimoy, then the brilliant Zachary Quinto, brought incomparable humanity to a character forever torn between logic and emotion. We searched for months for an actor who would, like them, bring his own interpretation to the role. An actor who would, like them, effortlessly embody Spock's greatest qualities, beyond obvious logic: empathy, intuition, compassion, confusion, and yearning," Kurtzman added. "Ethan Peck walked into the room inhabiting all of these qualities, aware of his daunting responsibility to Leonard, Zack, and the fans, and ready to confront the challenge in the service of protecting and expanding on Spock's legacy. In that spirit, we're thrilled to welcome him to the family."

Ooh. I’ll look forward to this.

One small request tho: can we not have the awful ‘authenticity’ of Klingons speaking Klingon in screen?? It’s not that I mind the language but some scenes were pure comedy last series. A Klingon would talk for what seemed like hours and the subtitles would appear; ‘Yes’. (Ok I’m exaggerating but not much!)

I found those dialogues so tedious and pace-Killy

CBSAA is doing something called "Short Treks", 15+/- minute films set in the Discovery universe. The first one, running now, is fantastic! The next one premiers November 8th.
