Star Trek - Discovery - 1.11: The Wolf Inside

I would like to remind you what Saru said at the beginning of the series. "We were biologically determined for one purpose and one purpose alone – to sense the coming of death."– Saru, 2256 ("The Vulcan Hello")

If we go back only to ep. 10 and see Michael killed her own first officer before she took control of Shenzhou. A slave with qualities like Saru's, are really significant for survival in these conditions.

I wouldn't call it lazy writing. Sometimes you are most hardest to your own kind. I also doubt gay love is dead in the Trek. They already got second season, and we hardly know most of the characters as there are so much to explore in the Discovery's future. What I do admit is that some things might be more difficult since they're situated in the Mirror Universe instead of being in the Prime one. All we know that everything that we consider as bad is major norm in that dimension. So, I was surprised to see a member of Saru's species serving Michael as personal servant. Why would they use other species, if they hate them so much?
They did in the "Enterprise" mirror universe. There were Andorians, Vulcans and Tellarites serving on the mirror Enterprise. Which raises questions about how the Terran Empire managed to subjugate those species, considering the limited tech they had. Especially since some of those species they only just encountered a few years prior.

But let's be honest. The mirror-universe was always just an excuse for the regular actors to play against type and for the writers to kill off characters in new creative ways, without any consequence.
Which is part of the reason those episodes were so memorable.

I think you don't have to have subjugated an entire race to outnumber a handful of them :D

Still going back to @Alexa and @Dave's points, that could be how Saru finally worked out that Ash was The Guy.

A couple of things that astounded me:
  • In the future, when we discover a dead body, we just assume who the killer must have been instead of taking DNA samples from the injury site and immediate area. Or review security footage. Or ask the computer who else had been there.
  • In the future, when we send medics in to effectively crash cart a dying person, once they fail they just go away and leave the body there for his co-workers to stare at a while.

Back on topic.
I'm glad Detmer has gotten more screentime, her Mirror counterpart has even gotten to speak a few lines! Also this version doesn't have an eye-implant, leading me to wonder what exactly happened to Prime Detmer.
I wanted more screentime for the bridge crew, i guess I'll have to settle for this.

Detmer was wounded at the Battle of the Binary Stars - she was on the Shenzhou. (I answered this in another thread too.)

I still maintain that after watching a whole Season [is this a spoiler?] there could be a little more character development of the Bridge crew than the knowledge that one of them got a terrible facial injury in the Battle of the Binary Stars. Several are still just faces and names.

It'll come. :D
